5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, nice to know it's there in case of emergencies., 11 Feb. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This compact little device works well. It's slightly larger than 2 drinks cans so fits easily in the glove box. You can charge it up via the mains or via the 12V car socket as you drive along. Once fully charged you can use it for 3 jump starts, so you get a couple of tries. Simply switch on the device, connect the terminals and push the button. When pressed it gives you power for 5 seconds, so you'll probably need someone else to push the button / start the car. But otherwise works well. Even has a little LED light on the front if you're struggling to find the terminals in the dark. Would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant for thumb sucking., 9 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I struggled for 1.5+ years to get my 5 year old and 7 year old to stop sucking their thumbs. We tried Stop and Grow (the stuff you get in Boots), thumb guards, incentives everything but nothing worked and the constant reminding them become a real family pain point. Finally, tried Mavala Stop and it worked instantly. It's basically the same as Stop and Grow but tastes much worse. Put it on their nails about once every 2-3 days and in the last 2 months I haven't had to remind them once. Perfect.

The Gift of Time: How Delegation Can Give You Space to Succeed
The Gift of Time: How Delegation Can Give You Space to Succeed

1.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre blog post drawn out into a pointless book., 9 Jan. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Many business books suffer from having enough content to be a long article, but are stretched out to a full book so that the author can earn their fee. This book could be summarised in one mediocre blog post, but instead is drawn out into a really pointless book. The other reviewers have said it all but in my view have been far too nice in their overall assessment. Giving this book the 4 hours needed to get the whole way through it, is an utter waste of time. What you get is a lot of meta-information about delegation (how much will it save - cue some dodgy maths and extrapolation etc..), excruciatingly drawn out explanations, vague referrals to the authors own success all written in the style of an A-level business studies paper. Please don't waste your time. I wish I hadn't.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit of a gimmick, needs utensils, 14 Dec. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
With this combined hot plate and grill you basically get a frying plan style hot plate and a small grill. You use the hot plate to fry up your savoury treats, cook pancakes, brown meat etc and the grill to melt cheese, chocolate etc. in 8 small dishes. It's a fun idea. We tried it out with both chocolate and cheese and while it was fun, I can't see it being used regularly in our house. The book has a few basic recipes to follow and you can easily find more online. The product was let down by a lack of utensils for your guests making things like pancakes a pain. What it really needs is 6 small fish slices, tongs and skewers. Also the 1.2m lead, while meaning it could be tidied away easiest is likely to mean you need an extension cord on most tables.

Nelly and the Quest for Captain Peabody
Nelly and the Quest for Captain Peabody

Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.89

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't really do it for my 7 year old, 14 Dec. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My 7 year old read this book. It's a story of a Feisty young girl called Nelly who sets of on her own to find her father Captain Peabody. She encounters, storms, pirates and islands in the search for her father. While the story was interesting, my 7 year old, despite being a strong reader, found it a confusing story and she couldn't quite keep up with it. Probably one for older readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tasting chocolate protein powder, 15 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
So I don't know the technical details of protein powders, but I'm assured by those who know, that this stuff is top notch, all the right mix, the right proteins and very low carbohydrates. All I can say is that it dissolves well and tastes great. Post workout (usually crossfit, or a long cycle or run) I have this in the brillaint Breville In-Bottle Smoothie Maker (Breville Blend-Active Personal Blender Family Pack, White and Green) with some milk, some frozen strawberries and some ice to make a delicious strawberry chocolate milkshake / smoothie. Tastes great and gets you feeling energised again.

2.0 out of 5 stars I struggle to see the advantage compared to a contactless debit card, 15 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This product is relatively simple and straightforward. You get a rubber plastic bracelet, with a small compartment in it. Then an old SIM card sized chip. You simply, create a BPay account on line, add a debit card to it, load it with cash and set some auto-top up settings (very similar to the London Underground Oyster Card system), then slip the chip in the bracelet and away you go. Any shop that takes a contactless payment card, you can now simply swipe your wrist instead. The system is easy to set-up and works great, having tried it in a few shops and on the underground too, exactly the same as any contactles credit/debit card. If there's one fault in the usability it's that the bracelet is tricky to put on. Rather than go for a simply watch clasp this uses two metal hooks that you push through the rubber. This can make it a bit of a pain to put on and I think anyone with any limited mobility in their wrists is really going to struggle. However, once it's on, it doesn't come off, so at least it's secure.

So it works fine. Why then 2 stars? Well, because I really struggle to see the point of it. When your bank will probably give you a contactless card for free paying £15 and committing money to be held by Barclays seems pointless. Some reviewers have mentioned using it for sport, but slipping a debit card into your pocket is just as easy and probably more comfortable (this is what I do when I run and cycle). Commuting has a slight advantage since you don't have to dig out your wallet, but is it really worth wearing a bracelet all day when you pass through a tube gate twice a day? Instead, I wish I'd gone for the sticker version (bPay Sticker - Contactless Payment Device - Charcoal) that you can stick to the back of your phone. It's always in your pocket and so could easily be swiped. But unless you're very concerned about getting your money out in public or keep you wallet/purse at the bottom of your bag I'm struggling to see why you'd bother with this. Nice idea, works well, but I just don't get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scrabble while having a heart attack!, 15 Nov. 2015
This review is from: Bananagrams Wild Tiles (Toy)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I simply love Bananagrams. You and your opponents start with 21 tiles (less if there's more than 4 of you) and working along,it's a race to make your own scrabble style grid. Once you've completed your grid you take another letter (forcing your opponents to also take another piece) and then furiously rework your grid to include the new letter. The key to success is to balance taking your time making a great base of long words (with plenty of room for additions of new letters) then timing your mad rush to the finish to make sure you complete your grid first when the last letter is taken. The game swings wonderfully back and forward and always ends on a knife edge. A full game takes about 10 mins for 3 people (longer or shorter for less or more players) so there's plenty of opportunity for plenty of rounds in an evening. I've spent many a happy holiday with friends playing this well into the evening. The basic skills are very similar to scrabble, but with quick thinking being the key over focused word smithing to maximise points.
This updated version is exactly the same as the original version (Bananagrams Game) but with the addition of 6 wild tiles (the equivalent of scrabbles blanks). So if you like you can ditch these 6 tiles and simply play the original game. For adult players, I find that the wild tiles aren't really needed but they are a good addition when playing with a range of abilities. I regularly play with my seven year old with modified rules (she simply has to make intersecting words, not a full grid) and the blank tiles give another opportunity to even up the balance.
So not really a necessary addition, but in no way does this version detract from a brilliant, family friendly game. I love it, Scrabble has been consigned to the bottom of the cupboard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality, good price, semi-firm pillow., 7 Nov. 2015

For the price this is a good quality, semi-firm pillow. The quilted cover makes it very easy to clean and I find it gives just enough support that you can use it own as a singe pillow. Very comfy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good looking sleek functional scale, let down by lack of third party connectivity., 7 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These Beurer BF800 scales, look great with a clear, clean white and chrome finish and a very easily readable white on blue display. They have a nice large platform and using them is very simple. Simply set up your profile on the app (iOS and Android) input your details and when you step on the scales, you'll get weight and BMI alongside fat, water and muscle percentages. Once you've created your account you can simply use the scales as normal to get your ratings, you don't need the smartphone app at all. If you then use the scales with the smartphone app open, it will download all the readings since the last time you had it open (up to 20 readings) into the app. You can then use the app to see graphs of your history. As a system if works very well, though the Beurer health management app is a bit limited and clunky (you can also view it via their website).

The scales are let down by a lack of any connectivity to 3rd party apps. E.g. you can use your weight readings to update automatically in strava, garmin, MyFitnessPal etc. Hopefully the manufacturer will rectify this soon.
