Viral Marketing: The Science of Sharing
Viral Marketing: The Science of Sharing
by Karen Nelson-Field
Edition: Paperback
Price: 16.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Deceptively easy read but full of insight, 10 Jan 2014
This relatively short book manages to pack in the results of a multitude of studies and research findings. It's superbly organised and clear - a model of what an academic writing for industry practitioners should aspire to.

It's conclusions aren't necessarily earth-shattering, especially if you've read and digested Byron Sharp's How Brands Grow: What Marketers Don't Know (definitely worthwhile reading).

But, in an area which is ovewhelmed with hype and hucksterism, solid research based results show you the way forward. They won't guarantee a viral video success, but they can help you increase your chances, and avoid some pitfalls along the way.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb value, 22 Aug 2013

This is just great value. 13 brand new novels for 20 quid by a great detective writer.

Be careful:

1) They aren't all REBUS novels, but the non-Rebus one that I've read so far (Watchman) is really good.

2) The list of novels is accurate, but doesn't match the picture on the listing, which has 14 novels, and a slightly different set.

Overall however this is an unmissable offer if, like me, you're new to Ian Rankin.

(I bought mine from "sun-shine" - one of two suppliers offering the set for 20 pounds)

1.0 out of 5 stars hmm, doesn't even charge reliably..., 30 July 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had read other reviews that this didn't work properly with speaker docks etc.

But I only needed it to charge my ipod at work - I had several spare old-style apple usb cables, and didn't want to pay out for a new one from apple.

But it doesn't even charge reliably - it doesn't seem to fit the 8 pin socket on the ipod properly... It'll charge if you hold it in place, at a slight angle, but if you let it go it doesn't work.

UNIMPRESSED!

5.0 out of 5 stars the perfect rowing tool, 30 Nov 2010
This review is from: Rigger Jigger (Misc.)
10mm for attaching riggers to boat, and 13 mm for top nuts, just what every rower wants!

Developed by Nigel Watson of Sons of the Thames and produced by club member and faithful supporter Henri Teng, of Teng tools, to make a rower's life easier, it's now available for everyone on Amazon.

Recommended by Matther Pinsett, who claimed he had one on board every time he won a gold medal.

If rowing is your sport, in Europe, you need one!

(don't think anyone has made one in US sizes, for americans)

We have too many cook books, and quite a few of them just sit on the shelf.
This one however gets used and used and used. We keep finding great new recipes in it. Latest was the squash tagine with date couscous. superb!

Logitech Harmony 895 Advanced Universal Remote

1.0 out of 5 stars ultimately disappointing, 2 Oct 2009
A great concept, this never quite lived up to its billing, and eventually the buttons stopped working...

Minor irritations:

* Didn't fit properly on the charging cradle, so you had to play around with it for ages to get it to charge
* Mac software is slow to load and has a non-mac interface
* "learning" instructions from your original remote requires the HArmony remote to be connected to a PC

Major disaster:

* The volume buttons just stopped working after about 2 years - the build quality isn't sufficiently good

Day to day annoyance - not fit for purpose

* The concept of the remote is around "activities" "watch TV", "watch dvd" etc. If you stick within an activity, the remote works very well. it's a bit of a pain to program - the software wizards never seem logical and are hard to use. However, if you want to switch activities - e.g. to pause a DVD, check what's on channel 4 and then go back to the DVD, the whole system seems to break down. Selecting "watch TV" will turn off your DVD and try to turn on your TV (which is already on, just in DVD mode not TV mode, so PowerToggle will turn it off..). Switching back will PowerToggle again, turn your DVD on which has probably now lost your place... You can get around this using "device" menus, but this takes multiple key strokes, and it^s probably easier just to use several remotes. You can also program keys so that they do multiple things (e.g. the up and down channel buttons work with both your main TV and your set top box), which enables you to stay within an activity while addressing a different device, but this can have unintended consequences, and there are limits to the number of these mulitple action keys you can set up.

Overall, it was more trouble than it was worth.

I've now bought a Phillips Prestigo 9320/10.

It's much easier to program, better looking and higher quality build, and about half the price if you search around (not on Amazon yet though, it seems)..

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth learning by heart..., 10 Feb 2002

A friend bought this for our 4 year old son for Christmas, and he loves it. The combination of rhyme and repetition wtih an enchanting story and the taped narration really caught his imagination. By mid January he surprised us all by reciting the whole story to us from start to finish. I can't think of a better recommendation...
