Once upon a time this might have been called science-fiction - without being an expert, I'd say that the science of DNA and genetics has come so far in recent years that this may already be possible, or at least on the horizon. A compelling story, sympathetic characters in a tried and tested background of renegade loners vs the establishment, I'd recommend this if you like a great page-turner - the same is true of the other books in this series. I hope there will be more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerising! 'The Breakers' will draw you in and terrify you - all too believable!, 19 Aug 2014

I am only partway through Book 1 so far, but I am going to enjoy this series - Mr Robertson paints a vivid and starkly mesmerising picture of an apocalyptic world, and the characters who inhabit it. Aspiring writers could do well to read him and take note of the way he makes every word count. I have no hesitation in giving this five stars based on Book 1 alone - it's a real page-turner! And with the recent outbreak of an Ebola epidemic, it is horribly believable....

A truly frightening glimpse of as possible future, a vision in the same genre as Hugh Howie's brilliant 'Wool' series but with a different spin which makes both unique. I want to know what happens next!!!

C.L.Taylor has woven a gripping tale of an abusive relationship and a comatose daughter that will move and grip anyone who is a parent. Once started, I found it difficult to put down, and I love the fact that the first three three lines popped into the authors head and remained the same in the final version!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it in (almost) one sitting!, 12 July 2014

I love SUMMER holidays, not just for the chance to be somewhere different, but for the opportunity to read to my hearts content. I read Pines one morning while my Norfolk explored a lead mining museum in the highest town in Scotland, a town so remote it cod easily be another Pines. Great characters, a compelling mystery, and a satisfying conclusion made this a brilliant read. Now for the sequel....

From the master of the skewed reality cones another strange tale - and perhaps the most creepy thing of all, is that it seems all too believable...
