1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY / N'ACHETEZ PAS, 13 Aug 2014

This review is from: Divagations (Paperback)
DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION OF THE 'DIVAGATIONS'. The print size is miniscule and it has three columns to a page. The titles of each 'anecdote' are not clearly distinguished from the text, and where accents appear on those titles, only capital letters are used. This edition is flimsy and rife with printing errors making it wholly unreadable. This is completely unnaceptable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A remarkable work of scholarship, 5 Jun 2014

This is detailed, nuanced, well-written, and quite astoundingly well-researched. A pleasure to read for undergraduates and older. Houghton has highly achieved.

Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars More moving than I had expected, 5 Jun 2014

For what is basically a didactic, political novel, this is remarkably moving and intelligent. Give it a read, it's short.

Literary Theory: An Introduction
Literary Theory: An Introduction
by Terry Eagleton
Edition: Paperback
Price: £16.55

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is Eagleton's best work, which all undergraduates should read. Without making arguments too complex and without delving unnecessarily deep into the many writers he discusses, this overview of the history of literary theory clearly and, by and large, fairly puts the thought of a huge number of thinkers in witty and clear terms. Eagleton points out many of these writers' central problems and themes without ever being dull or overly complex. A fine piece of writing, and the criticism's not half bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful!, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Because Kant is such an important writer, whose thought continues to have an overbearing weight on academia and life today, is not the only reason you should read this excellent edition of the Critique of Judgement: it is because his reasoning is so lucid and superb, so incredibly persuasive, and so clear. This translation demonstrates Kant's astounding ability to reason to perfection so that everything he says seems obvious, whilst also not at all reading like a translation. This is a remarkable work which every serious student should read.

The Victorian sage: Studies in argument
The Victorian sage: Studies in argument
by John Holloway
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine work of criticism, 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Front cover is more modern than as appears in the picture. Holloway has written an intelligent, remarkably well-researched, and overwhelmingly useful study of this set of important thinkers. His analysis of Carlyle in particular is exhaustive, and on George Eliot he is very rewarding. Certainly appropriate for undergraduates and above.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent case, really high-quality, extremely useful., 5 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was worried because, like all high-tech cases, it was difficult to get my HTC to fit at first, but it loosened up in a day or two and now all is well. The case is sleek, dark, and attractive, most importantly retaining the slimness of the phone itself despite its protective qualities. It has soft material on the inside (front and back), and holes for all the relevant slots cut into the hard, protective sides. It isn't made of real leather, but nonetheless the materials used here are evidently high-quality. The top of the case closes by latching quite cleverly onto the phone itself (no danger of damage): this was a little stiff at first but now works remarkably well. The BOENSO DESIGN label is carved onto the leather on the front of the case, but is subtle and from most angles invisible. There is a hole in the back for the speakers, for the metal holes (design feature), and for the camera. The hole for the camera which covers the size of the whole camera 'unit', not just the lens. Although I would highly recommend this extremely high-quality case, whether it's worth the money is questionable. After all, it's just a case. That said, this is a case which will undoubtedly outlive the phone.
