Never heard of Lapalux before, but heard about it through Ninja Tune web site. (I believe the Brainfeeder label is an offshoot). This style certainly goes to places that most music doesn't. It's certainly different and unorthodox but strangely mesmerising. Both edgy and caIming at the same time. Love it, but I have no idea why. Strange, beautiful music indeed.

24 minutes and 56 seconds of sublime brilliance. Add into the blend Stuart McCallum's guitar, and stuff don't get much better than this!

This is one hour of fun filled, feel good, Jazz Funk, delivered at a cracking pace and intensity. Not a duff track in sight here. If this don't make you move, then I doubt that much will. Worth every penny!

If you like something a little different, something that demands you to really listen to it, something where each track gives you no clues as to what's coming next, no distractions, no disturbances, from start to finish. Try this. Stunning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Velvet smooth!, 23 Mar. 2014

First heard tracks from this album on Jazz FM, smooth velvet soul with just a sprinkling of jazz here and there. The songs are well written, and the album has been very well recorded and produced. Simple arrangements really allow the vocals to shine through. At times, through headphones, it sounds like the lady is in the same room! Looking at the CD cover, maybe there is no major label backing here, which makes the way it's turned out even more impressive. The only gripe I have (and it's a pet hate) is that there is the addition of a remix of one of the tracks, so you get two versions of the same song, which for me sort of throws the flow of the album. The album is full of quality, it doesn't need remix's to "flesh" it out. That's what you would expect from a manufactured "pop" act, that needs to fill their album up. So overall, a very impressive set. Definitely worth the price. Already looking forward to more from this very talented soulstress.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected treat, 22 Dec. 2013

Bought this on a whim after hearing the Joey Negro mix of Freesia, and what an unexpected treat it turned out to be!. 5/5, 10/10, 100/100 - whichever way you rate it, this is a top, top soul record, packaged full of cracking tunes. The simple and uncluttered arrangements really showcase the quality of the songs. It's the kind of record that will keep you cool in summer and warm in winter! I don't honestly think that there's a duff track on the whole album. Recommend it? I know my opinion doesn't really count for a great deal in the grand scheme of things, but this is one of the best albums I've listened to this year. Worth every penny.

Great tracks from back in the day, wonderfully remixed. Really does breathe new life into the songs. My personal faves are Mass Production "Cosmic Lust" and Princess Freesia "Freesia". Well worth the price, and then some!

I love "Dial M for Monkey" but I have to say this is probably better. A terrific record from start to finish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Take a closer look, 20 Feb. 2013
This review is from: Derek - Series 1 [DVD] (DVD)
Ricky Gervais's work tends to fall into two categories - love it or hate it. Because most of his other output tends to be comedy, many people may see this as such an attempt. Warning - it is not a comedy. This show has been slated in various sections of the media for various reasons, and it' easy to see why. If you take the time to watch it closely however, and without any preconceived notions of what it might be about, you might be surprised. Being a fan of Ricky Gervais's work in the past, I found it a bit confusing to start with. But perservering, I found it be a very clever, and often gentle and touching portayal of a man who, despite his obvious akwardness, is kind, caring, and just really an uncomplicated decent human being. Instead of being gushingly sentimental, I found it quite a hard hitting challenge to the way that we all, wether we like to admit it or not, view other people. The only thing I couldn't get used to however, was Karl Pilkington in a "serious" role. He's just too much like himself! In conclusion this won't be to everyone's taste, but before watching it try and keep an open mind first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three words......., 12 Dec. 2012

This album is much in the same vain as "This Binary Universe." If you liked that, you'll love this, although I personally slightly prefer this one. Stunningly crafted and produced, as you would expect, each track slides seamlessly into the next. Three words - mellow, peaceful, beautiful.
