2.0 out of 5 stars Shoud have been fun, but wasn't, 2 Mar 2014
Like Jonah Hex, all the right elements were here for some silly fun yet it turned out to be all a bit samey and a bit dull. Not really recommended unless you are very very bored, and even then I'd suggest that there are better things that you can do, with a bit of imagination.

3.0 out of 5 stars Humax may have an issue with remote control quality?, 23 May 2010
Just to note quickly that I'm submitting this review nearly 12 months on from the original purchase date, and that, generally, this product is a satisfactory piece of kit. However, I'd draw attention to the fact that the "rubbery keyed" remote control has deteriorated slowly over time, to the point where it is now almost unuseable - it's not a batteries issue, but an issue of build quality. I also have a Humax foxsat box and have similar response issues on that remote control too, making me think that I haven't simply been unlucky but perhaps there is an underlying issue with the quality of Humax remote controls, which can lead to a great deal of frustration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm and human music, 1 Feb 2007
This review is from: Pause (Audio CD)
Okay, I'm a little late to this particular party. But this album is superb and I have to tell it like it is. Warm, intimate, melodic always, comforting, HUMAN music. Often quite downtempo and late night, occassionally dubby and getting into real grooves. One of the best albums ever heard!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cookin' on gas, 24 Sep 2003
This review is from: Cookin' Ingredients 3 (Audio CD)
3rd installment of the extremely high quality Ingredients series, and in fact the finest compilation yet. This CD has a slightly moodier, jazzier feel than the previous installments. Special mention must go to Cedar's gorgeously simple "Elusive Tides", a slow groove of bass and Rhodes. There are other familiar names from previous compilations, with Realside and Solaris turning up, as well as some new names. Also worth a special mention is Vincents hellish "Spectral Bullitt", with twisted dark distortion underlying demented jazz piano and percussion. Silent Hill Jazz Festival anyone? But all round, a finely enjoyable selection of late night leftfieldness, and thoroughly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blisteringly good sci-fi d'n'b from 720 Head Honcho, 23 Sep 2003
This review is from: Into The Void (Audio CD)
After some years of gaining a reputation as a cutting edge drum n bass DJ and artist, Blame finally gets around to recording his debut artist album. And it doesn't disappoint.
What to expect? Well, all the trademark Blame sounds really. A full journey across the spectrum of drum n bass, from the future jazz of 'Chimera' to the ambient washes of 'Oceans of Hope'. Lots of adrenalin fuelled sci-fi stompers, such as the excellent 'Firestorm' and the very dark and stormy 'Immortal'. And very, very polished, slick production, as fans will have come to expect.
So the only question that remains is - where does Blame go from here? Immediately after the release of this album, Blame split from the Good Looking label to concentrate on his own 720 Degrees label. Let's hope he continues to develop his mature and distinctive style that sets him apart from the mediocrity of most of the d'n'b scene.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chilled lounge funk jazz summer time grooviness, 4 Jan 2003
This review is from: Ingredients 1 (Audio CD)
Cookin' Records is an offshoot of Earth Records, and this is a compilation (first in a series) of their output, overseen and selected by LTJ Bukem. But don't expect drum n bass here, the Cookin' mission has its sights set on an eclectic range of music that encompasses downtempo hip-hop, lounge, funk and jazz, and thats exactly what you get. Every track here is quality, and varies from almost full-on jazz craziness to lush late night atmospherics. Excellently packaged too. Looking forward to more from the Cookin label!
