This is a marvellous adaptation of Edith Wharton's novel. The main actor, Gillian Anderson, gave a wonderful performance, and richly deserved the award she received.
The rest of the cast, and the locations, were also very well presented.
I would recommend this film highly, especially for lovers of Gillian Anderson, at the time on a hiatus from the filming of the long-running series The X Files.

A wonderful adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel. Marvellous actors, particularly Gillian Anderson in the role as Lady Dedlock, a tortured soul, with a secret in her past.
The sets were very evocative of the time, and all the actors put in sterling performances.

I enjoyed very much this third series of Last Tango in Halifax, and wonder if they will present a fourth edition.
Sarah Lancashire, Anne Reid and the rest of the cast, were marvellous, as they were in the first two series.

5.0 out of 5 stars and thus is a wonderful story, both of their lives together, 7 Sept. 2014

Everything about this woman, Lady Diana Cooper, is uplifting and very amusing. She was at the centre of world events for the most interesting and action-packed years of the 20th Century, from her youth during the First World War, when every man she had ever danced with, except one, was killed on the battlefields. The sole survivor of her group was Duff Cooper, an equally fascinating personality whom she married after the war, and thus is a wonderful story, both of their lives together, the birth of their only son, John Julius, now Lord Norwich, a famous man in his own right, and the life they lived as the Ambassador and his wife in the British Embassy in Paris in the years immediately after the Second World War.
Any book about Diana Cooper is interesting, and I loved this one, as it is her official autobiography.

The wonderful Sarah Lancashire shines in this gritty portrayal of a relentless police officer, determined to find and punish the man who murdered her daughter. Marvellous acting, as always from this superb actress. All the actors were very good in their parts, and I would recommend this film.

This review is from: The Railway Man [DVD] [2013] (DVD)
An absorbing story about the traumatic memories of a former prisoner of the Japanese, forced to work on the Burma-Siam Railway. It is a true account of the life-changing efforts of the main protagonist, Eric, to come to terms with his past torture, and the eventual forgiveness of the man he considered responsible. The two men met and forged a friendship before their lives came to an end. Nicole Kidman was very good as the supporting wife.

A wonderful performance by Guy Pearce, as the uptight perfectionist, son of a famous police commander. Convoluted plot, but well worth watching. Twelve years old but still relevant today.

A well-made Australian film set in the aftermath of the murders of two young policemen in Melbourne. The actors were well chosen, particularly Brett Climo, who was the senior member in charge of the investigations to uncover the killer.

This was an interesting film, well acted by Colin Firth and Jim Broadbent, about the relationship between a father who was an extrovert, and his son who found the father over-powering. Humorous in parts, but not a subject that brings joy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Last Tango in Halifax is a treat., 11 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This series is a joy to watch, as the actors are all so wonderful, and the script, by Sally Wainwright, bubbles with superb dialogue.
Anne Reid and Sarah Lancashire play beautifully against each other, and Nicola Walker is well-cast as the daughter of Derek Jacobi's character.
I would recommend this series to anyone who loves good English acting and well-written plays, and am waiting for the third series to be finished and broadcast.
