4.0 out of 5 stars the fiction we live, 11 Nov. 2003
This review is from: The Fiction We Live (Audio CD)
this album blew me away. having heard only a couple of tracks from 'too bad you're beautiful', namely 'switch' and 'short stories with tragic endings' i was interested to hear the new sound.
i'm pretty impressed. having bought this album at the same time as buying 'the illusion of safety' by thrice, the never-ending battle of which cd's gonna get played began. 'T.F.W.L' wiped the floor with thrice, dispelling the lyric in 'lilacs and lolita' that "we're not even competition".
granted, the drummer's vocals are a little weak, and that's perhaps the only downpoint on this gem of an album. 'the after dinner payback' is one of the best opening tracks on an album i've heard in a long time.
i can't help noticing that people are getting the impression FATA have "sold out" a little, by having more melodic vocals and less brutality. i'm afraid i have to say that's not really fair. i've never understood the whole selling out thing, FATA have just written songs in a different style.
great album, well worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Great British Trip-Hop Hi-jinx, 28 Jan. 2003
This review is from: Superhero Music (Audio CD)
From the first "proper" track on this album 'Ogre', you sense this album isn't just another generic trip-hop release, creative use of samples with sources as diverse as "Grand Theft Auto 3" (PS2 computer game) on Track 21: the Chase, and a snippet of a classic Batman tv episode, there's one phrase that immediately comes to mind: "it's all good".
From there, Track 2, this album just keeps getting better. An ability from both members of Fingathing, DJ Peter Parker and double-bassist Sneaky, to keep the listeners attention with both interesting samples, skratches, rhythms and the essence of a musical perfomance in the bass, all go together to create a fairly unique, and im proud to say, British sound.
Well done guys.
