5.0 out of 5 stars This is real Travel writing, 22 July 2012

I find it confusing how other comments here complain that this book is too much 'about the author' - surely thats the whole point, otherwise go and buy a Lonely Planet guide - Theroux is a writer and this is literature and in my opinion the most honest and heartfelt of all his travel books - no its not the story of those islands - its the story of a man trying to find hope there as his marriage collapses and in that way far more compelling and meaningful. This is what travel writing should be - personal, expressionist and at times painfully true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a band in transition but something special on its own, 29 April 2012
This review is from: Movement (Audio CD)
This album keeps being called a transition album however thats with the benefit of hindsight.. when I first heard it it blew me away,, the combination of emotional and technological intensity has in my opinion never been matched in an album of its kind - it is the peak of that kind of music and played loud is both exciting and haunting. After it there was only one way to go - to lighten up. it should be considered a classic but because it doesnt fit neatly into the Joy Division/New Order story it gets avoided. I recommend another listen.. and pretend youve never heard of the band..

5.0 out of 5 stars Not New Order but so good.., 29 April 2012
This review is from: NEVER CRY ANOTHER TEAR (Audio CD)
This album is so much better than New Orders last two albums.. uplifting and at times beautiful.. hope they do another.. This album should have recieved so much more airplay and publicity with some classic pop songs like 'sink or swim' and 'running out of luck' which are better singles than New Order have produced since Republic, though 'twist of fate' has to be one of my favourite tracks. At first the combination of vocals and styles seems odd but in a wonderful way it seems to sum up the eclectic beauty of manchester's musical tradition..

Two months from buying this it still doesnt bore me.. The standout track here has to be Moving further away and I hope the band move further in this direction.. those of us who like Berlin era Bowie have been waiting a long time..

1.0 out of 5 stars Very boring, 1 April 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
After the first 30 mins of play this became boring.. its worrying that the makers seem to have misunderstood why everyone likes the sims franchise - the freedom it gives people to entirely create their own stories, people and environments from a blank slate - this game allows you to do none of these, it is essentially a poor rpg, i hope this doesnt mean the creators are losing their own creativity..
