1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE!!! Runs Too Slow, 4 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this looking for the full version of their only 78rpm released in their lifetime, "The Dance Of The Cuckoos" released in 1932. Indeed the full version is on here, most releases of it are edited. Unfortunately all 5 tracks run around 5% too slow. Now I have software that can correct this but most don't, nor should we need to. Why anyone at Hallmark, the label it is released on, did not notice (don't they do playback's?) is, frankly, unbelievable. Do not buy this, avoid at all costs it really irritating and simply not worth the hastle

5.0 out of 5 stars Dylan tells a joke, 11 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ok not a great joke but how often has anyone heard Dylan tell a joke? And he delivers it brilliantly. Sadly it's nothing to do with The Gaslight, it was recorded on 22 Dec 1961 with some friends around

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a BOOTLEG recording, why don't these other Amazon reviewers understand that. Doh!, 28 May 2012
Yes, this is Uriah Heeps second instalment of their Bootleg Series (pity they don't release some 70's and 80's concerts in that Bootleg Series).
I am really annoyed by reveiwers on here saying "the sound quality is not good." ect. Yes but have you not read the word BOOTLEG on the product?
The sound is far from poor or bad. It's quite clear. Hell, one reveiver said that you can't hear the vocals. Bernies vocals are right up there. It's a good recording, not studio album crystal clear though. And that's because it's a BOOTLEG recording.
I've listened to proper bootlegs since I started buying music and have heard some shoddy sounds, but then what's to be expected when an audience member has one microphone and a concealed tape recorder. OK this is the digital age and this has been recorded on digital equipment.
It's a great recording of a great night on Uriah Heeps Wake The Sleeper Tour. buy it you'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review on the films, 3 Sep 2011
These films are classics. I'm amazed that they were not released years ago on DVD. The Strong Man and Tramp Tramp Tramp really stand out and show Harry Langdons acting and writing genius in full flow. Unfortunately the transfer onto the DVD is by far not great but were else can you get these films? Put them on, try and lower the brightness of your TV and turn the sound down and put on different music to the DVD's soundtrack(i'd suggest Annette Hanshaw or Helen Kane to keep with the times and pace of the films).
More Langdon needs releasing on DVD

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Santana Performance, 14 Sep 2009
The previous reviewer only gave this 1 star (I really don't understand why) this is a superb album coupled with an amazing performance, and to boot the performance that launched Santana. Most of this performance is available on the Legacy edition of the album, the packaging of this album is better than the legacy edition and this version doesn't hide the fact it's been released before. It's not a gimick for you to spend more money. It's really been released for the generations who weren't there in the late 60's so you can hear the current album along side a live performance. They've also done this with Johnny Winter, Janis Joplin, Sly & The Family Stone and Jefferson Airplane. I hope/wish more are released in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Birth of The Stones as a Stadium Band, 28 Jun 2009
This review is from: Gimme Shelter [DVD] [2009] (DVD)
This is a shockingly fantastic film. It was meant to start out as a filmed document of the Stones live comeback of '69 and instead, mostly, turned into a document of the Altamont Free Concert disaster. Indeed a young man was stabbed, Hunter Meredith was only 18.

I do object to Amazons review of this DVD stating, "the on-screen stabbing of a young African-American man (during 'Sympathy for the Devil,' no less)" In fact the song permormed at the time was 'Under My Thumb.' This sort of proves that Amazons reviewers don't actually watch the DVD's before reviewing them.

Still a fantastic film no less. The look on Jaggers face at the end, when he asks the film editor to rewind the section of film where Meredith Hunter is stabbed, shows total shock and empathy. And a short great scene I like where the camera pans across the studio to find Keith lying on his back behind the amps (for some reason) is quite amusing.

This film captures the Stones at the start of their live performances as we know them today. After a two and a half year absence from the stage they returned to a different musical world to the one they'd left. No longer did concerts last 30 minutes (although in the '69 tour they only played around 80 minutes a show, unlike other bands at the time clocking 2 hour concerts). The stage presences, the glam, Jaggers strutt all starts here.

5.0 out of 5 stars HONEST OPINION, 5 Jun 2009
This review is from: Trout Mask Replica (Audio CD)
Not many albums divide people like this. I'm reading the other reveiws people have left and, yes, you either love it or hate it.

I think if you've never heard Beefheart before DON'T listen to Trout Mask first. Instead listen to Bluejeans & Moonbeams (I think this is Beefhearts more appeasing album) trhen if you like that progress through the Beefheart collection (maybe Safe As Milk next) until you get to Trout Mask.

The problem with Trout Mask is that, on the one hand it is a work of genius, but on the other you need to listen to other Beefheart albums first to appreaciate Trout Mask. This album always appears on top 50 or 100 must have albums, but no one seems to explain that you can't just go strait to this album with no knowledge of Beefheart.

Of course there are those who will never understand it (you can't please everyone) For every Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Zeppelin, Beach Boys, Who and Hendrix fan there is a Bee Gees, Carpenters and ABBA fan (no pun intended) I like all these bands but the first lot experiment and don't mind breaking rules and not sounding like themselves. The second lot experimented but kept it safe (most of the time Carpenters Goodbye To Love is still awsome).

Hope this helps

4.0 out of 5 stars NOT A BAD MOVIE, 14 Dec 2008
Give this film a go. It was a very popular kind of film in it's day. There are many from the 30's like this. Laurel and Hardy were used for comic releif in the movie, there routine works well. They later redid the routine in The Bullfighters (1945). This is NOT a laurel and Hardy film though, more a Jimmy Durante movie. He was on the rise in 1934, when this was made, after appearing with Buster Keaton in a number of MGM comedies as a sort of double act. After Keaton was fired by MGM they tried out Durante as a lone act but put him in movies along with other comedians (The 3 Stooges, ect.) (Maybe MGM couldn't bank on Durante making it by himself).
The film originally was to be called The Hollywood Revue Of 1933 but fell into problems, hence 8 directors were used (but strangly only 1 credited) and eventually was completed in 1934.
Well worth it for The Chocolate tin Soldiers part from Disney. The first colour Mickey Mouse as well.
Give the film a go and be transported back to the 30's where movie stars were looked on like kings and queens.

Edsel have done the right thing here. Combining the first two albums onto a double CD and selling it for the price of a single CD. Being that not many would've heard these 2 albums (especially the first) then many might not have taken the gamble on buying an album you might not have heard any of the tracks on before (until I got this I only knew 'In The Name Of Love'). We're more likely to take the gamble on buying an album crammed with tracks. Plus, after the first 3 releases from Edsel of the more commercial albums by the Twins, then we know we are getting a product of quality and extensive notes.
Well done to all the people at Edsel (now how about releasing 'Close To The Bone,'Big Trash' and 'Queer' <the 3 albums left>)
Don't listen to Blackie Greys comments, although entitled to them, anyone wanting to rip us off or makes us spend more money I am always dubious of.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC FOLLOW UP, 2 April 2008
This review is from: Brain Thrust Mastery (Audio CD)
This is not a CD+DVD it is 2xCD's.

Fantastic follow up of 2005's With Love & Squalor. Not as heavy as it's predecessor but more melodic.

Try to get the 2 CD set as the 2nd disc is a live acoustic show from November 2007. The inbetween song chat is histerical. Deffinently 2 stand-up comedians screaming to get out.
