The Diamond Brothers 8 Books Set Detective Agency Collection (French Confection, Blurred Man, I Know What You Did Last Wednesday, Greek Who Stole Christmas, Public Enemy Number Two, in South by South East, in The Falcon's Malteser, Two Of Diamonds)
by Anthony Horowitz
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Diamond bother stories are great but don't get this 8 book collection, 5 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My boys (9 & 11) love the Diamond brother stories but don't make the same mistake as me in buying this 8 book set. The 8th book is actually a world book day edition combining the two stories "The French Confection" and "I know what you did last Wednesday", both of which are already included in the set.
I was also a bit disappointed that 4 of the books are so much shorter than the first three books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tactile brain teaser, 3 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an excellent brainteaser with levels to suit all the family. Easy to take on holiday as it packs into a small bag. The pieces are wonderfully tactile and it is quite addictive to move them around the board.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tried and tested study book but not worth buying with the CD, 3 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an excellent book of studies for children and thoroughly recommended but the accompanying CD is awful with really tinny music and this doesn't add anything to improving technique.

Dyslexia: A Parents' Survival Guide

5.0 out of 5 stars More please..., 25 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Thanks to the many positive reviews, this is the first book about dyslexia that I have read since my son was finally diagnosed after nearly 2 years of dialogue with his school about my concern.
It is an excellent guide by someone who clearly understands what it means to be the mother of a dyslexic child, but can also give a teacher's perspective, which it can be easy for a "fussy mother" to overlook.
There is a great deal of emphasis put on the problems related to organisational skills and poor short term memory, which is really enlightening. It is a very concise book but includes many practical tips and suggestions which will certainly be put to good use. I just wish there were a few more pages with tips in each chapter, as I have really appreciated the excellent and down to earth advice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent travelling companion, 28 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Doodle Dogs (Klutz) (Spiral-bound)
I bought this and the Doodle Cats for my 2 sons aged 8 & 6 to keep them occupied on a flight. Worked a treat and lasted throughout the summer holidays.
The hardboard backing makes it easy to use wherever you are and the product is quite small so easy to slip into a handbag if you want to have something to entertain your kids while at a restaurant etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Most appealing electronics set, 22 Mar. 2012
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
My 6 and 8 year old boys received a set each for Christmas and are both absolutely delighted.

I was very surprised how quickly they both managed to put together a car without help from me, despite the fact that I found the manual rather complicated. There is a lot text and only a single photo shot of the end result and some of the photos are quite small. Nevertheless there must be something very intuitive about this set as both boys have come up with lots of combinations and they seem to be learning a lot on their own. Later they should learn even more when we read more of the manual together.

This electricity set has so much more appeal than most others on the market for the simple reason that it includes wheels and a float!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous outfit, 18 Mar. 2012
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a lovely quality outfit. The soft hat is so much nicer than the usual hard plastic ones I had seen.
My one disappointment is that there is no secret compartment to hide the rabbit. I guess I'll have to get my sewing kit out and add one myself.

Suzuki Violin School, Volume 2 (Suzuki Method)
Suzuki Violin School, Volume 2 (Suzuki Method)
by David Cerone
Edition: Audio CD
Price: £12.44

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as volume 1, 29 Feb. 2012
This CD starts rather abruptly. There is no tuning option with the A string note that is often found on CD's for teaching violin.
There is also no second version of each piece with accompaniment only, as there was with the first volume.
Overall it is satisfactory but not as good for violin practice as the CD we have for Volume 1.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite such high quality as expected, 16 Dec. 2011
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
A little disappointed with this set although luckily my six year old boy magician is happy with it.
It is suitable for a six year old but not for children much older as the challenges are limited.

1. The sword in the stone trick is super - simple and effective - only problem here is that the paint comes off the magic button so that even after the first day the button is no longer so well disguised.

2. The cube in a box trick looks great with all the pretty pictures on the outside of the box but the fact that these are all different immediately exposes the trick. My small boys have not yet noticed but any reasonably observant child will quickly catch on. This trick requires that the sides of the box are symetrically similar so that the audience will not notice the manoeuvering of the lid.

3. The magic chamber is a good trick, but I noticed on opening that the paper is already a bit torn and the wood has slightly rough edges. Poorer quality than hoped.

4. The changing colour string box is fine but I would have liked to see slightly thicker & better quality string.

Overall a bit disappointed but the price was reasonable. I would recommend for anyone with young children as a first magic trick set but bear in mind the above limitation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Uninspired, 11 Dec. 2011
Many of the Letterland books are great including some of the activity books but these work books are really rather boring. I found the Jolly Phonics work books to be much better but wanted something different for my younger son. These books have failed to inspire him.
