Camera now much improved, 2 Aug 2009

This isn't a complete review - just a quick note to say that the camera is much improved if you update to the current patch level. There are now 3 camera modes that can be easliy toggled either through the HUD or by pressing the * key - Exploration Mode, Character Mode and Strategy Mode. Each of these modes can be tweaked through the options menu.
For people not used to Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter Night games and want controls and camera to feel more like, say, WoW or Oblivion (like me!) - I would strongly recommend Character Mode. The only wierdness you have to deal with here is that the strafe keys are A-D and the turn keys are Q-E - i.e. the opposite from most games. Of course, this can be easily recitified through the options menu.
The Strategy Mode gives you a longer range top-down view and is there to make it easier to control multiple characters in a battle situation. Exploration Mode is there for people used to NWN 1 and Diablo control style (as I've never played these, I don't really use this). If you use Character Mode to move around and switch to Strategy Mode in a battle then the game feels quite manageable. It's not quite as slick to control as WoW etc., and to be honest you still sometimes get the problem of the people/objects getting in the way of cut scenes. So not perfect then but by no means the game-breaker that it used to be.
One more point - you don't need any of the expansions to get these updates (despite what some other reviews are stating) - and the game has a patch option when you start it up, so it's a simple business to patch the game to the current level (although it will take you some time to catch up with two years of updates!).
