Frozen in Time: The Fate of the Franklin Expedition
Frozen in Time: The Fate of the Franklin Expedition
by John Geiger
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

5.0 out of 5 stars a brilliant read about a fateful journey, 19 Jan. 2012

I was always fascinated about the fate of the Franklin expedition but had only really read small articles and seen the pictures from the body exhumations on Beechey island. For me at least this has filled in all the blanks and it makes for a very powerful and very saddening read. The pictures of the exhumation did not shock me as it would others but filled me with sadness especially the young John Torrington (Pictured on the cover)The elements had preserved him incredibly well and it looked almost like he was sleeping(The body at the time of being exhumed had been there for 138 years)It was like the pain and suffering had come to an end for him. This is a factual story about how disease, bad preparation and the forces of nature wiped out an entire crew on a voyage of discovery. A fantastic yet sad account.

Altec Lansing VS2620 2.0 Speakers
Altec Lansing VS2620 2.0 Speakers

4.0 out of 5 stars great sounding big old speakers, 14 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I recently got these speakers to replace an older creative set up that although still working perfectly is now taking up too much room in my set up and i now have to make room for these. They are a lot bigger than i thought. I read most of the reviews on here including the negative ones ( I don't understand how they think that they are poor in terms of sound quality. I only turned mine up less than half and could feel the bass thumping through the desk. They maybe got a bad pair or need some cotton buds to clear their ears out i think.)The only problem is the lack of a earphone socket but i worked my way around that so it's not a problem. So to sum up decent sounding speakers for a decent price. the star is knocked off the rating for the bulky size and lack of an earphone socket.

1.0 out of 5 stars didn't work for me, 10 Jan. 2012

I would have gave this no stars if i could. I recently bought a new monitor with a dvi and a hdmi input. Reading reviews about the monitor suggested using the dvi socket instead of the hdmi. Having plugged this adapter into the monitor along with the cable produced no response at all. This in my opinion is a piece of junk. Avoid.

5.0 out of 5 stars a little gem of a shoe, 5 Jan. 2012
Just got this shoe for the gym and i love them already!. These shoes feature full length air cushioning as you can see through the clear window cut in the outer sole. The cushioned feel and lightness of the shoe is great for a mid priced shoe.I would say as good as if not better than some of the Jordan shoes i have. Only minor grumbles is the toe box is a little large i could have maybe got away with a half size down and the tongue could have been a tad wider but this is just nit-picking.So if you want a very good mid-priced b-ball or court shoe that feels supremely comfortable underfoot i would recommend this shoe.

4.0 out of 5 stars great old school classic, 27 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have been a fan of the pump range of shoes for years and i decided to add these to the collection. First off is how light the shoes feel in comparison to the original model (If i can remember the original had a polyurethane midsole which weighed a ton!).These are very light indeed. Leather is of good quality if a little thin around the toe area. The toe area itself is quite narrow so if you have a wider foot i would maybe consider a size up. The pump bladder is in the tongue which is a very wide bellow type and works very well. The hexalite cushioning is in the forefoot and rearfoot and is a little firm and quite springy which i don't mind. So to sum up really good shoe only minor complaint is the narrow toe box.

5.0 out of 5 stars good solid build, 16 Dec. 2011

First off i will say that i am no expert on hiking footwear but i do know a well built shoe and these are fantastic. The c-cap midsole is well cushioned and feels great underfoot. The lining is keeping my feet toasty and the vibram sole is thick and grippy and very durable. an ideal shoe for winter.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic . . be careful with sizing though, 24 Oct. 2011
Just got this jumper and i am very impressed with the quality. Quite a fine knit but very well constructed. I would say that this jumper is quite a small xxl in fact its more like a large to me.So be careful about sizing because it's a lot of money to lay out for something that might not fit.

Reebok Mens Easytone Casual Sports Shoes - Fitness
Reebok Mens Easytone Casual Sports Shoes - Fitness

3.0 out of 5 stars ok but not brilliant, 17 Oct. 2011
I recently bought these shoes to wear at work and they are a bit awkward.I think the easy tone system is ok but not the easiest thing to get used to (Recently Reebok were fined for misleading claims about this very technology which does work but not as much as they claim.)So overall a well made and comfortable shoe but takes a wee bit of practice to walk in.

3.0 out of 5 stars not what you would expect. . ., 10 Oct. 2011

The shoe is good to look at,not too fussy looking and very clean lines. My complaint is in the shoe itself. despite the fact that it has a very large air unit in the mid-sole the shoe itself feels quite firm and the toe box is a bit smaller than i am used to. A decent enough shoe i suppose but could have been a bit better with a bit of tweaking.will maybe try some different insoles in them because the ones supplied in the shoe feel a bit flimsy.
