My son has recently been diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic, and this book has been a godsend! We have used this book for calculating his carb intake for virtually every meal, and it has been so good that his school has bought one too. Although we use electronic scales at home, the pictures are really great for helping us make a realistic guess for carbs content in places where weighing food is impossible or impracticle, such as restaurants. It is easy to understand, and virtually all day-to-day foods are covered, as well as some of the more unusual fare. I would recommend this book to anyone.

This book is great for beginners. The author writes in a way that is clear and easy to understand, and there are enough exercises on each page to make sure that you have plenty of practise before moving onto the next chapter. My guitar teacher uses this book alongside his lessons and I am sure that it is easier to follow if you are also having lessons, rather than just teaching yourself. Having said that, this book is just as good for those who are teaching themselves, as everything is clearly explained throughout. The cd is a real bonus. Apparently this book takes about 2 years to work through, which I can understand if you are doing as much practise as is suggested, so it's good value too.
