Thoughtful, atmospheric, and blazingly precise. Fine acting, and the varying stories of the individual characters are woven clearly and with inevitability. Excellent.

A wonderful concert, and the recording was crystal clear. An excellent production of a particularly successful New Year Concert. A wonderful reminder of having been there in Vienna for the first time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, concise and engossing, 11 Dec. 2009
An absolutely brilliant and entertaining explanation of the glory of Shakespeare's verse and prose by the greatest director of his plays. No one understands, appreciates and communicates Shakespeare's text better than Peter Hall, and this book is not only an inispensible one for actors but an egrossing one for anyone who enjoys theatre. The choice of illustrations compliments the selection of texts.

The Vienna Philharmonic is matchless in this absolutely splendid New Year's Day Concert conducted by Zubin Mehta. Another DVD that captures the sheer magic of these unique annual concerts. A compensation for those unable to be actually present.

4.0 out of 5 stars Re-living memories, 11 Dec. 2009
This second collection of recordings from productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company includes two absolute gems: one of the Paul Robeson 'Othello' but particularly of the 1964 'Henry IV Part 1'. This was certainly the greatest production I have ever seen of what I believe is Shakespeare's finest play containing his greatest literary creation. The casting was absolutely first class: Eric Porter, Ian Holm, Roy Dotrice, Janet Suzman, Clive Morton, Clive Swift, William Squire, above of course the indomitable Hugh Griffith, whose Falstaff was unforgettable. For this extract alone, this 2 CD set is highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating account., 13 Sept. 2009
This review is from: Zubin Mehta: A Memoir (Hardcover)
Absolutely readable in that it is like listening to a performance conducted by Zubin Mehta: Sublime, engaging, thoughtful and thoroughly constructed. A rich life of music selflessly shared with millions.
