5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant detective film..., 1 Jun. 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Brick [DVD] (DVD)
Brick is one of my favourite films of recent years.

Joseph-Gordon Levitt is brilliant as Brendan Frye, the high-school loner searching for answers to his ex-girlfriends disapearance.

With a fantastic script inspired by the novels of Dashiell Hammett, it's a truly unique film with a distinctive style.

Like Donnie Darko the DVD will probably see the film win more fans that it's theatrical release did, at least, that's what it deserves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Set to explode..., 14 Feb. 2006
This review is from: Datarock (Audio CD)
...Datarock are going to huge.
I bought the album after listening to their disco-rock track "Fa Fa Fa" on the Annie's DJ Kicks compilation (which is also brilliant by the way).
Datarock's album is, from start to finish, quite brilliant and whilst they remain relatively unknown in the UK it won't be long before they explode.
I predict big things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 16 Oct. 2004
This review is from: Super Discount 2 (Audio CD)
It's been a long time since Super Discount was released - way back in 1997.
And personally i thought no. 2 would never top the first album, which was synonomous with the French wave that revolutionised house in the late 90s.
Good news! It does. Whilst serving up a different style of house, a more electro-tech, feel it's just as brilliant as the first album. As with Super Discount, none of the tracks stand out as huge "anthems" but 'Fast Track' with it's driving bass-guitar riff and shifting tempo is definetly aimed at the dancefloor as are 'Limewire' and 'Overnet'.
Not the french filtered disco of the first volume, but very much "finger-on-the-pulse" house with a dinstinctive Parisian flavour. Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Less chart cheese..., 9 Oct. 2004
This review is from: Palookaville (Audio CD)
We've all heard 'Slash Dot Slash', Fatboy's Slim's trademark production- a sampled vocal loop accompanied by rocking beats.
There are one or two tracks that fit this description on the album, for instance the opener Don't Let Man Get You Down points out how "long haired freaks need not apply", and Mi Bebe Maosquista features a guy lamenting the fact his "masochistic baby has gone and left him", shame for him. Both are interesting with rocking bassline's and beats in the true Fatboy style.
But some of the tracks on this album are distinctly different to what we've come to expect. North West Three is my favourite track on the album and is a beautiful dreamy song, much more downtempo than the rest of the album.
Put it Back Together and Push are Shove are other tracks that work, but don't follow his usual style of random sampled mayhem.
All in all a good album.

4.0 out of 5 stars The more i listen, the more i like..., 8 Aug. 2004
This review is from: Cruising Attitude (Audio CD)
After listening to 'Cruising Attitude', it's plainly evident that Dimitri has moved on from his 1997 debut 'Sacre Bleu'. His latest offering, through French label Discograph, is much more instrumental with many of the tracks remaining firmly in the 'chill-out' category and capturing a cheesy-soundtrack feel, but of course, in the best possible Parisian taste.
Not Quite Disco the opening track, uses harp's, piano's and a strong bassline to create a 4/4 groove which no doubt works just as well on the dancefloor as it does in the lounge. Okinawa Love a wonderful down-tempo track is unashamedly cheesy - but it works, using a japanese styled piano hook and catchy string arrangements. The Live Jazz on the album which is featured twice, once with a great MAW remix edit, is excellent toe-tapping stuff.
An excellent return by Dimitri.

5.0 out of 5 stars French Madness, 26 May 2004
Quality french dance music presented by Etienne De Crecy, who includes Prix Choc and Liquidation Totale two of his own tracks.
This isn't all about 4/4 french disco though, ensuring the album doesn't suffer from a lack of variety (as many house-oriented albums do) down-tempo jazz-influenced tracks from french duo Air and pioneering producer Alex Gopher.
The tracks aren't mixed, and it's a fantastic insight into why the French sound became (and still is) so popular. A truly excellent collection! Roll on Super Discount 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Timeless, 23 May 2004

It might be a few years old now yet most of the tracks on this album are completely timeless and still sound fresh.
If you like french funk then this will be an excellent edition to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great source of inspiration..., 14 Mar. 2004
...great source of inspiration for anybody studying, or simply interested in graphic design.
Some design houses appear to have sacrificed meaningful comments on graphic design and it future for pretentious babble about nothing but visually it's great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, 25 Feb. 2004
As a collection of 'eye-candy' websites this is truly brilliant.
As the web becomes an increasingly popular medium for business promotion, creativity in both layout and navigation is something i find clients are requiring on a more consistent basis - despite the current boom with usablility issues.
As a source of inspiration for the 'different' when it comes to website creation Wiedermann has put together a stunning selection. Beautifully presented, with satisfying content and a bonus DVD it represents excellent value for money.

A beautifully designed book leads you through 100 popular logo's in four different sections - Corporate, Elegant, Techy, Playful, and Edgy logo's.
Each page is devoted to one logo explaining it's meaning and a detail about the client's brief , but the book is interspersed with more detailed considerations of certain identities. These present concept sketches, brand evolvement and well written commentary explaining the processes behind the finished image.
All in all a fabulous book which is sure to get your creative juices flowing.
