A captivating little tale from Bruno' s former life as a Dominican monk-almost a prequel to the Bruno stories set at the Elizabethan court. Enjoyable but over too soon - I do wonder if Maria will appear again in Parris' s next full Bruno novel which would explain why she bothered to publish this teaser of a story. As always, I await with some impatience for Bruno' s next mystery to see if my hunch is correct!

A good read although I found the battle descriptions a little tedious. Good well-rounded characters though and looking forward to the next volume.

Enjoyed this book - although really a story for teens. Have to say I was disappointed in the ending - no sting in the tail as the villain was obvious - but the gist of the story was entertaining. Not strong enough to make me want to read more by the same author, but good fun nevertheless.

Solomon's story is moving and beautifully told - although I have to say that the number of typo`s in this Kindle edition did mar my enjoyment. Not sure if these would have been corrected in hard copy, but I found them particularly irritating especially as Solmon' s vocabulary was so eloquently phrased. Can't wait to see the movie now!

Pretty much more of the same from Brown`s Professor Langdon, but enjoyable nonetheless. This time he races against time and across Venice in search of a virus being incubated by a mad scientist obsessed with the imagery of Dante`s vision of Hell. As usual Brown's storytelling includes factual historical and architectural points of reference mixed with a little folklore to make the reader think "what if.....?".

Mr Shakespeare improves with age it seems. A real page turner - possibly the best of Clements' Shakespeare tales. Thoroughly enjoyable!

A real page turner. Not my usual kind of book but I was pleasantly surprised. Looking forward to reading the second book.

An enjoyable and heartwarming tale - although I found the scavenger (Benfu) more interesting than his daughters. I wanted to read more details of the hardships he endured under Chairman Mao' s regime, rather than Linnea' s love life. I hope the author expands on this in book 2.

Usually I enjoy Barbara Erskine' s across-time stories but this one was a little tedious and not as spooky as some of her earlier books. None are as thrilling as Lady of Hay which used real characters from history and was a new approach to the historical novel when published xxx years ago. Erskine is an accomplished storyteller but time to change the format I think.

My third John Shakespeare story and thoroughly enjoyable. Clements spins a good Elizabethan yarn and his characters - some of whom are already well-known from our history lessons at school- are believable and obviously well- researched. The relevant appearance of John's famous brother adds charm to the story despite its brutal subject-matter. Great stuff!
