4.0 out of 5 stars Good for dispelling some misunderstandings about the U.N., 9 Oct 2010
It's been a while since I read this book, and cannot vouch for its literary merits. However, it was certainly effective in cracking some holes in the U.N. wall of moral holiness... It brings the U.N. into the realm of world poltics - not much more than an impotent subject to be pushed around at will by the U.S. and its allies. Highly rewarding read in this sense.

This review is from: Lower Depths (Paperback)
"The Lower Depths is perhaps Maxim Gorky's best-known play. It was written during the winter of 1901 and the spring of 1902. Subtitled "Scenes from Russian Life," it depicted a group of the Russian underclass in a shelter near the Volga. Produced by the Moscow Arts Theatre on December 18, 1902, Konstantin Stanislavski directed and starred. It became his first major success, and a hallmark of Russian socialist realism."
