5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically funny and intelligent humour...., 28 Oct 2007
A true modern classic, this is one of the most hilarious and compelling films Ive ever seen............. Yes, some scenes are bold, stark and frankly shocking at times, but always played innocently, this means that the film is NEVER OFFENSIVE, as the words are coming from an ingoramus, who innocently tells things as he sees them........ the fact that more intelligent people self monitor / censor what they say, does in no way make them any less ' offensive ' than Borat in fact, Borats innocence and good natured self, never comes accross as anything other than naive and ignorant....... add this to the mans great self humour, and child like take on the world, and this is very sophisticated comedy indeed. works on many levels, including political and social structures, but above all, it is a non stop rollercoaster of laughter, there is so much material in this film, so much enjoyment to be had, a must see film, in every sense of the word. enjoy !

4.0 out of 5 stars Rollicking wartime story, 28 Oct 2007
Heart-warming tale of The Windmill Theatre during the 30's & 40's .. Great performances from Dame Judi & Bob (natch!), and surprisingly Will Young as Bertie. A special word of mention also to Kelly Reilly, who not only steals the show as Maureen, but is absolutely beautiful. Of the extras, the 'making off' feature is well worth seeing, and features the real-life original Windmill Girls, all now drawing a pension. What out for Frear's hair in this feature though - it's scary !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different Action, 27 Oct 2007
I'm not actually a fan of Shaun of the Dead, I just didn't find it that funny, but this really made me laugh and I recommend it to all. Simon Pegg plays Nicholas Angel, the Met's top Police Officer, the best at everything. Only he's so good that he's making them look bad so they ship him off to the countryside to a little village in the middle of nowhere. He's still doing everything by the book, which means rounding up all the underage drinkers and glaring at hoodies. His sidekick is Danny, obsessed with Bad Boys II and Point Break, he wants to shoot things while jumping through the air. All goes along nicely until the grisly 'accidents' that keep occurring. Angel thinks they could be linked but no one believes him. Can he crack the case? This is daft beyond belief, but it knows it. I love Simon Pegg's face throughout it all, totally straight, I don't know how he did it. And of course the uber geek in me loves all the references to other films it does, which is what I loved best about Spaced. Go watch it when it's out and have a good laugh. It's been ages since a film tickled me so.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, could have been excellent..., 27 Oct 2007
This review is from: Fracture [DVD] (DVD)
This gets off to a cracking pace, it really is both entertaining, clever and also humerous, up to half way in... Then it changes somehow, it seems to run out of its first sharp 'clever' steam, and that does dull its edge a bit. The first half has you thinking the clever so and so, then it sort of gets watered down in some way and the ending that should have been quite spectacular sort of trails off. It is still a really good movie nevertheless, well worth its 4 star rating, but it just missed out a little. I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cracking Finale, 27 Oct 2007
This is a superb end to a great trilogy, Damon is excellent as Bourne, the amnesiac CIA assassin who, now, for the final film, remembers everything about his training and the people who made him, and wants revenge. The film has some fantastic set peices including a brilliant chase through Waterloo station at rush hour, and a spectacular car chase through the streets of New York. The final act is great, and ties up all the lose ends of the film; really enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars killing you softly, 27 Oct 2007

Don't expect any of the gimmicks or visual trickery or rug-from-under-feet moves which characterised Fight Club, Se7en or Alien 3, fond of all of them though I am. This is masterfully controlled film-making and lovingly unravelling storytelling - the kind that needs no embellishment or pyrotechnics. Beloved as I am of Gyllenhaal and Downey - even Dr Mark Greene from off of ER - it is unfair to single any actor out as this is an ensemble piece first and foremost. Much has been made of the length, but it is worth it - it is a classic and I, for one, am proud to be able to say I saw it on its weekend of release. If that makes me sad, so be it! I cannot wait for Fincher's next release.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 27 Oct 2007
This review is from: Next [DVD] (DVD)
Didnt see myself enjoying this (sorry for the pun..), However I was very supprised. I found this to be very original and entertaining, although it perhaps could have moved a tad quicker in places. I would really like to see a sequel, as I think there is a lot of potential. Cage gives a great, if not samey performance, - far better than Ghostrider! I did find Biels acting a little weak - she seemed to portray little depth of character, but then the script i dont think helped in this area. A good an unexpected ending, although I did feel a little bit cheated as I wanted to see more!
