5.0 out of 5 stars Want to add my five stars, 4 Feb. 2008
Wow great series. Ordered them due to the good reviews on this site and had three looonng evenings with my wife to see the whole 22 Episodes in 3 days ... We had a great time its really addictive.

My personal impressions. Series kind of starts slow after a couple of episodes it finds its pace, still a little bit to much "monster of the week" for my taste. Later on teh characters are getting more and more development and constantly the episodes get better IMO.

The strory isnt something completly new: Private investigator, magic ...fights kick ass heroine everything has been seen before: Dresden Files, Angel, Buffy, Supernatural. Still the series feels fresh, mainly due to the "real" feeling of the created world. In Buffy demons devaste neighborhoods etc. its hard to believe that the world could still ignore the supernatural... This is handled much more elegant in "Blood ties" . the supernatural exists but is not as flashy ax in Buffy or Angel.

All the main characters have an interessting background: The heroine as a former police officer but is slowly going blind and dropped out of the police force... Her partner trying to help her but has a really hard time to explain to his boses what he his doing on his work time.... Even the side characters feel real: THe grandmother looking for the missing husband of her dead daughter .. The halting voice..the insecurity of traing to expalin family matters to a stranger.. very well done simply.

I would buy another season in a heartbea alas it seems no decsion till now if this series will have another season...

Now the weak points of this DVD release:
- No subtitles
- The dialect, and sound mix up makes it very hard to understand sometimes all the dialogue... (As you noticed I am not a native speaker but from Germany)
- no extras

Nevertheless five stars for this very well written series

I didnt expect such a well made series when I started seeing "Point Pleasant".

It start as a typical teenage drama with "suble hints"(cough) pointing mystical powers . You clearly notice that the series was intended to last longer than 1 season because lots and lots of characters are introduced but never really "filled out".

The series somehow reminded myself on "Carrie 1+2" simply in a longer version.

Teenager fights its dark heritage, tries to make friends or even find love and people who accept her.

For some time it looks like she is winning against her dark side but all starts to slip away and the all people around her betray her or leave her alone.

I dont know why people want to compare this series to Buffy. But if you like supernatural series like Hex, Buffy, Angel, Roswell, Witchblade for example. I think there is a good chance you will like "Point Pleasant" too.

I really enjoyed this series. Sadly this series was axed before it had a chance to really show its full potential. (Fox seems to have a tendency to invest in great series "Firefly" etc. screw up the potential in sending episodes out of order (5 chapters of point pleaseant where never shown on tv) and then axe the series in midrun of the first season. The show never had a chance (Even Buffy got really succesful in the 2nd season and the first season was really bad)

What is left is the beginning of a great series. (The writer still did a good job of giving the series a good finish in the limited space they had)
