Okay, I'll keep it brief: It's Gus Gus's best album; it's gorgeously electronic and it deserves your (aherm) attention.

You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess [European Import]
You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess [European Import]

5.0 out of 5 stars Early essential Yello, 3 April 2003
While some of their later output was very much for fans, this early eighties masterclass in sonic genius needs little introduction. Very influential to people like Trevor Horn, this and the follow-up 'Stella' marked creative high watermarks for Blank & Meier. Always undervalued, this album is a classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack in it's own right., 2 April 2003
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It just sooo refreshing when effort is put into a film soundtrack such as 'Fight Club' or a Lynch film. "Being John Malkovich" is no exception to the rule. It's a mainly orchestral album, very meloncholic in places, all beautiful piano and lush string arrangements. Credit to Carter Burwell for this great score, and a special mention must go to track two, the "Malkovich Masterpiece", which is a demonstration in lyrical minimalism. Very amusing track to a superb album.

2.0 out of 5 stars PSB's poorest album, 17 Dec. 2002
This review is from: Disco 2 (Audio CD)
Not a patch on the original "Disco", this second volume is a poorly seamed non-stop patchwork of 'Very' era tracks ranging from the great, "I Wouldn't Normally Do..[beatmasters mix]" to the grating, god-awful remixes of "Liberation" & "Yesterday When I Was Mad [vasquez mix]. I think the boys regretted it's release soon after & by the looks of things next years "Disco 3" will be much more like it. If your looking for the killer remixes from their early '90's output, seek out the CD singles which were mostly fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars The electro pioneers return., 11 Oct. 2002
This review is from: Cruelty Without Beauty (Audio CD)
"Cruelty without Beauty" demonstrates a very polished Soft Cell sound, but still retains those glorious hooks which made them so great the first time around. Lyrically, the sleaze has been replaced by middle-age dilemnas and woes, but Almond is on mostly top form throughout. Highlights include "Together Alone", "On An Up" and the corking flagship single "Monoculture". This has so far been largely ignored by the public, which is a shame, as it's great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Phil Oakey for president..., 1 Oct. 2002

Minimal publicity for the latest 'League opus, but it's been worth it. "Octopus" was a major return to form, and "Secrets" matches that. Fans of big synths will love this album, it's very electronic and all the better for it. This is great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite frankly, awesome., 25 Sept. 2002
This review is from: Monoculture [CD 1] (Audio CD)
Well, it's been awhile - 18 years in fact, but Marc Almond & Dave Ball have finally returned with a fantastic slab of electro pop which stands-up against any of their best work. The remixes on both CDs are excellent, while the b-side is of album quality. Brilliant, but somehow deemed too 'alternative' for prime-time radio (hence it entered at no.52 in the charts) - "Monoculture" restores my faith in music. Expect the forthcoming album "Cruelty without Beauty" to be a treat.
