Not sure how to review roller skates. They rock? They Roll? Seriously though, they seem comfortable and versatile enough for fun skating and the first probably faltering rolling into the Roller Derby experience...

Could have lost both Barry Lyndon and Lolita and slipped in Doctor Strangelove to suit my needs better but that aside, this set is a total bargain for the Kubrick Fan and the 'life in pictures' and 'o lucky malcolm' documentaries make it even more so! Red Rum, Red Rum RED RUM RED RUM!!! A Shining example of a box set!

5.0 out of 5 stars Believable, fun and why isn't this on TV?, 29 Nov 2013

Everybody seems to have the same picture of what life was like in the sixties, basically because whatever gets in the media is what survives as the picture of the times. But the dialogue and scenes in this story go to show what we all know deep down, nothing really changes. Teens want to grow up and show their parents a thing or two. People make mistakes growing up and in stories it's fun to see other people making them sometimes :-) This would make a brilliant TV series. Had a great time with Gavin, watching him live his dream and cause his own nightmares!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!!!, 6 Sep 2013

Having only recently entered the world of Blu Ray I have finally been able to see this cut ofthe movie. The greatest compliment I can pay this film is that despite being approximately half an hour longer than the theatrical cut, there islittle that does not seem that it should not always have been there. The flow of the film stuttered slightly in the previous cut, but once I twigged it is a film to watch when you are in a Blade Runner state of mind (also see Se7en in that mood) it is a film youdon't watch, but one you let happen in front of you and marvel at. Critics of the changes from the Watchmen book en route from page to screen are insane, this truly is as good as it gets in 'graphic novel' filming. Brilliant stuff

Despite the dismay greeting the news this film was going to be made, it is not half bad time filler of a movie. Shame that someone somewhere decided the (hardly overtaxing) directors cut was too much for the average cinemagoer. At least Ethan Hawke can smile now that the non theatrical cut is available and his contribution to proceeding is actually included. Hardly the edgiest film made from Philip K Dick material, but far from the worst. And the production values are astounding, irrespective of them being blatantly a mix of Minority Report and Blade Runner.

4.0 out of 5 stars A cautious love, 6 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Tree of Life [DVD] (DVD)
I have a cautious love for this film. An oddity in some ways, seeking to place the story of one family and their regrets in the context of the beginning of existence and the eventual end of the world. Majestically shot, superbly acted, but perhaps Malick could have placed the very important dialogue (of which there is not that much in the whole film) a bit higher in the mix. Subtitles helped me out here in a way that people who saw the film in the cinema weren't blessed with. With great art comes the risk of great pretentiousness and this is certainly a film that walks the tightrope between the two.Which side of the tightrope you fall off and land in will be very much about who, and how reflective you are.

While many were a little put off by the length and random nature of Crazy Clown Time these were the things I loved most about it. The second Lynch album is leaner, tighter, shorter and more focused and individual Songs are more 'complete' as pieces of music but not quite the trip I hoped for. That said, the persistence of certain sound/sonic elements thoughout Lynch musical output means I can enjoy both albums as one very long album and while the whole shebang isn't to everyone's taste , Lynch fans, in the absence of new films (due to extended hiatus) can indulge in a little audio holiday with the master of mood,, mystery, and melancholic mirth. Get Crazy Clown Time and The Big Dream, dive in.

They don't make like they used to. Wrong, they still do, and when the source material is respected, and the pace not speeded up to suit modern tastes, and the acting allowed to be exactly what it needs to be for the story being told, not jazzed up to suit the pce of the modern world, masterpieces happen.

But the memories are slightly too random and the album slightly too long for it to have the individual sense of its own identity of previous Daftness.

Wouldn't have read this had I not seen the Daniel Crag movie version. But glad I did, for the story itself and noting it's outdated bits, but more regularly, just how harsh the character of Bond is and just how wrong anyone who doubts Craig as Bond is. Very simply told and leanly worded story.
