3.0 out of 5 stars Another point is the long plastic handle is too bendy and flexible to have a good grip/pressure for scrubbing on the back, 21 Nov 2014

Delivery was prompt. However in my opinion the sponge surface is too smooth to feel clean, after cleaning my back with this. Another point is the long plastic handle is too bendy and flexible to have a good grip/pressure for scrubbing on the back.

2.0 out of 5 stars Older Humax was far better but not available, 5 Nov 2014

My Humax PVR 9200T finally stopped recording. So I bought another Humax, expecting it is as good or better. However, first the remote control stopped working after a month. ( Humax sent a replacement to me promptly.) When you are watching tv, the screen suddenly changes to a recording programme. There is no display on the recorder. It is very slow for the tv screen to appear after you press the button from standby. You cannot check what you already booked to record in time/date order like Humax PVR 9200T. If you stop watching a recorded programme in the middle and goes back to watch later, this does not go straight to the last video that you watched. So you have to scroll to find it. Subtitles do not sync if you fast forward the recorded programme. Even if a program is recorded, very often it says the recording failed. Apart from the fact that you can record 2 programmes and watch the third programme at the same time, there is no reason to buy Humax HDR-2000T.

Monteverdi: L'Orfeo (Gesamtaufnahme, italienisch) [Vinyl Schallplatte] [3 LP Box-Set]
Monteverdi: L'Orfeo (Gesamtaufnahme, italienisch) [Vinyl Schallplatte] [3 LP Box-Set]

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is The One, On Vinyl Of Course, 3 Mar 2014
Superb 1968 recording of one of the earliest operas from 1607 with original instruments & Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducting The Concentus Musicus Wein. Also truly great singers including Cathy Berberian & The Capella Antiqua. This is Claudio Monteverdi's first opera & it still sounds as fresh today as when I first heard it in 1969. Monteverdi was way ahead of his time, & he still is. There is so much space here, this Music makes every other opera sound cluttered. This is Music from a time when the Earth was far less crowded, & Wow, it shows! So pure & at the same time very, very sexy, sad, joyous & ultimately so uplifting. I have heard other versions of course, but this is the one that really makes my heart swell. Everyone I have ever played it to has loved it, young, old or
indifferent! It will bring tears to your eyes & fill your heart with joy at the same time.

Just one caveat, get it on vinyl if you can. I think most of us are now aware of just how big a con the digital medium is, with it's horribly compressed sound. If one is too lazy to get up & turn a record over, then one has truly lost it.

Oh, & please believe me when I say, it's got Rhythm with a capital R. The Life Force shines strongly in this Music & long may it continue to do so. Thank you Claudio Monteverdi. We owe you big time

5.0 out of 5 stars Steph Knows Who, 9 Aug 2013
This review is from: Da Capo (Audio CD)
About time! This Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab SACD sounds almost as good as the original vinyl. Many Thanks, MFSL! Now at last we can hear the whole group as they were always meant to be heard. Ken Forssi's bass & Michael Stuart's drums especially kick ass, the magical interweaving of Johnny Echols & Bryan Maclean's guitars with Tjay Cantrelli's saxophone & flute & even Snoopy's keyboards with Arthur Lee's astounding vocals as the inevitable creamy topping. Arthur sounding whiter than white on 'Que Vida' & 'She Comes In Colours', blacker than black on the much underrated 'Revelation', Yes, 'Revelation', nineteen minutes of incredibly hot sexy Music morphing into Tjay's oh so cool John Coltrane
homage. If you don't get 'Revelation' then you truly are a sexless directionless goon, as one famous Musician said. 'Stephanie Knows Who', 'Seven & Seven Is' & 'The Castle' all sound, like the whole album, the fullest & punchiest they have ever sounded on CD, & that is what it's all about, isn't it. Get this SACD while you can, if you have a heart & soul, & you love Real Music, then this Edition is for you

Growing sideways
Growing sideways
by Joe Potts
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious & Dark, 14 Nov 2012
This review is from: Growing sideways (Hardcover)
I read this brilliantly written book for the first time in 1971 & it still makes me laugh out loud. If you want to know exactly what England was really like in the late 1960's, then you need look no further. The 'hero' of the book is completely self-absorbed, as only teenagers can be, but he is such a well drawn character that it is easy to forgive him his excesses; especially when compared to the monstrous characters he comes up against.

Yes, Joe Potts is a truly wonderful writer with remarkable insight into human nature, unflinching but still compassionate & very, very funny. This book, & his second novel, 'Great Big One Armed Bandit', need to be reprinted asap. Just look at the crazy prices here!

I say bring 'Growing Sideways' back. It would make a great film, in the right hands of course. But film or no film, this book is one of the best I have ever read, & believe me, I've read quite a few. Perhaps an enterprising publisher could release it on kindle. Now that would be something!

5.0 out of 5 stars Respect At Last!, 3 Dec 2011
This review is from: Tim Buckley (Audio CD)
*** THIS REVIEW IS FOR TIM BUCKLEY'S DELUXE DEBUT 2 CD RELEASE ***

At last! Congratulations, Rhino Records, this lavishly packaged edition of Tim Buckley's first album is an absolute stunner. The Stereo mix is gorgeous but the Mono mix is a revelation. The second disc is also a revelation, showing us where it all started. I believe that Tim's second album, 'Goodbye And Hello' is also going to get the same treatment. Perhaps the incendiary 1970 Starsailor Band Concerts will also soon see the light of day, but this Deluxe Edition will do nicely for now. Very nicely! So if you want to hear the best voice of the twentieth century, and to date this century too, then this is the place to start. I love Music, all kinds of Music, whatever label we humans care to put on it, it is all Music, and I have never heard anyone sing as great as this guy could sing. So be good to your soul, heart, psyche, ears, and of course your lover, and just listen. Here is a good place to start, but all of his Music will blow you away one way or another. Oh, and please stop calling Tim's Music folk or folk rock or jazz rock or sex funk or avante garde. Tim Buckley's Music is all of these things and much much more. Just listen with an open mind and an open heart and you will see and hear what I mean. True!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound Quality At Last, 7 Oct 2011
Many Thanks, Rhino and Music Club, I don't know who you got in to do the remastering on this wonderful two disc compilation as the sleeve notes are a bit sparse and they contain a few glaring innaccuracies but the sound quality is superb on every track. It has taken a long time to do this incredible artist justice on the digital front but we are finally getting there. Every song now sounds almost as deep and as high as the vinyl records ever did. Truly spellbinding stuff. Spare ten minutes of your precious time and listen to the remastered 'Lorca', nobody else sings that good, nobody! Now we can look forward to all of the best ever Singer-Songwriter's Music, Tim Buckley of course, to be released on CD, including the 1970 Starsailor Band Concerts and that 1967 Gem 'Lady Give Me Your Key'. Make it soon though, we ain't any of us getting any younger
