5.0 out of 5 stars Gentle but effective on your hair, 17 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I got these for my 15 year old daughter who sometimes needs to straighten her hair for parties or for dance. Others that she has borrowed or used have been too damaging to her hair for her to use them on a semi-regular basis. The Remington, however, has a much better performance on relatively low temperatures so I am much happier about her using these. They heat up quickly and evenly without making the straighteners themselves warm to the touch and the results are pretty much instant. I was so happy with their performance that I even let my 12 year old daughter use these and I hadn't let her touch hair straighteners before then. You can use these with confidence even on fashion conscious children!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, but needs larger range of coffees, 17 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Dolce Gusto machine is a smart compact coffee machine that's easy to use. It took us five minutes to set up and get working and I doubt most people would find it anything other than user friendly. As you can only make one cup at a time it can take a little while to make drinks for 6 people, but that isn't really too much of a problem. For my wife, a real coffee lover, the only drawback is the fact that you are tied in to the Dolce Gusto capsules which leaves you with a fairly limited range of options at your local supermarket. Once the range is expanded this product would be almost perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Celtic Class, 20 Oct 2012
This review is from: o n e (MP3 Download)
With all the hype about Adele, Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle et al, music buyers have forgotten about a young lady with the best and most versatile voice in popular music today. From her initial success as an 11 year old prodigy Charlotte Church has moved between genres with an ease that none of her contemporaries or successors have been able to match. On her new EP 'One' she has produced a set of songs that clearly reflect her interest in Celtic music and her indie sensibilities, most effectively showcased on the haunting 'Beautiful Wreck'. I've never heard her voice sound better or more relaxed as it soars to hit high notes that others could only dream of, particularly on the gorgeous 'How not to be surprised when you're a ghost'. This is new music of the highest quality and it deserves to be heard by the widest possible audience, but Charlotte is now in the happy position of not having to worry about commercial success. Paradoxically, this relaxed attitude has allowed her to make some of her most accessible music ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely Old fashioned book, 17 Oct 2012
This review is from: Debutantes (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This book is described as perfect for readers who like Ballet Shoes and in many ways it has a very similar story. Four impoverished sisters, each with a burning ambition have to transcend their straitened circumstances to succeed. Like the sisters in Ballet Shoes they look for a way round their various difficulties, and they are always there for each other. My daughter loved the four sisters, especially Daisy who seems to leap from the pages fully formed as a flesh and blood character. The language is old-fashioned in character, but it never comes across as a pastiche in Cora Harrison's skillful hands. The plot moves ahead at a fair pace, but never too quickly to forget about the lovely period details which root this novel in the age of Jazz and debutantes being presented to society. Both myself and my daughter look forward to the next adventure for these four endearing characters.

Sony NWZE574 8GB Walkman MP3 Player with Digital Noise Cancelling - Black
Sony NWZE574 8GB Walkman MP3 Player with Digital Noise Cancelling - Black

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quality Buy, 17 Oct 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This product is the latest in a long line from the company that invented portable music and is a worthy possessor of the title Walkman. In essence the MP3 player I tested is a good, solid portable music player with most of the features you would expect. The playback is of a very high quality and probably the best I have come across especially when combined with a good set of earphones. Those provided are not bad, but if you purchase a higher quality set you will be doing yourself a favour. The Media Go software is incredibly straightforward to install and use, whilst giving the user an excellent range of features. As ever, Sony has come up with the goods and you can buy this with total confidence.

CraftArtist Scrapbooks (PC)
Price: £4.38

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, but needs more variety, 20 Sep 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
As someone who wants to scrapbook a sporting day out enjoyed by my daughter, I jumped at the chance of this software. However, I found the templates provided too old fashioned and oriented towards overtly feminine themes. For anyone wanting to scrapbook a wedding this is the software for you. It is easy to use and would, no doubt, produce excellent results. However, if your scrapbook does not fit in to very specific themes then you would be best off looking elsewhere or, if you have the money, buying the upgrade available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unobtrusive Excellence, 20 Jun 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
From reading other reviews about this product it is clear that some computers/laptops experience problems when installing. Fortunately I didn't as it set itself up in very quick order. This could possibly have something to do with the fact that I had suffered a huge problem and was forced to wipe everything and start again. Consequently, ESET may work best when it is the first or only security system set up on your computer.
During the first scan it spotted a virus that my previous paid for system had not and ever since it has unobtrusively been protecting my computer with no obvious slowing down of my system. When my 1 year is finished I would be extremely tempted to get another version of this security as it has furnished me with peace of mind and confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much more than meets the eye, 14 Jun 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I can only echo what other people have said about this book. It is impossible to review the content without running the risk of giving away something vital, or even hint at it. If I had known what was coming I would have felt totally cheated because Hayley Long has written the best twist I have EVER read in any novel in my life. It is a total thunderbolt that makes you completely reevaluate everything you have read that preceded it. You can reread and say 'ah yes, I see that now' but it is so brilliantly disguised that you could never have seen it coming. While the rest of the novel is well written it never quite follows that jaw dropping moment, but to expect it to is simply to be greedy. Whatever you do though, do NOT flick forward in this book or you may spoil things for yourself.

Sapphire Battersea (Hetty Feather)
Sapphire Battersea (Hetty Feather)
by Jacqueline Wilson
Edition: Audio CD

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely bedtime read, 18 May 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My daughter is a huge Jacqueline Wilson fan who has listened to the unabridged story contained on the 8 discs with absolute joy. The choice of Finty Williams as the reader is perfect according to my daughter because she brings the characters alive with different voices and tones. She has listened to the discs slowly but surely but has never got bored or lost the thread even if she has left a week between sections. I can imagine that a long car journey would go an awful lot quicker for any Jacqueline Wilson fans if this was put on and from what I've heard of it I would be quite happy to listen to it as well.

White Dolphin
White Dolphin
by Gill Lewis
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars A well written rewarding story, 18 May 2012
This review is from: White Dolphin (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
White Dolphin starts a little slowly in terms of story, with a little too much descriptive writing about the sea. Once it settles down, however, it is a superb read. The central story of the white dolphin comes in about half way through and serves as a catalyst to the other main stories of loss, greed and isolation. One of the elements I really liked throughout the main part of the book was the villain, Dougie Evans, who unusually is not given any redeeeming features whatsoever. He is a bully who hates anything and anyone that stops him making money, not a sadly misunderstood character with issues from his childhood! This makes him much easier to dislike - until the end with the obligatory Saulian conversion which was a great shame. I know children like people to see the errors of their ways, but Dougie sees his in a scene that just makes no sense at all given his character. Despite this one problem, which can quite easily be overlooked the book is an excellent read that will encourage children to find out more about the world around them.
