5.0 out of 5 stars Quality for work or play, 26 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A superb product which adds a real touch of class to the important business of protecting your valuable tablet. The classy black patterned cover will perform the task of impressing your work colleagues as well as your friends. It is hard wearing with a really robust feel and once you open it up there are three grooves to fit your tablet into place at different angles. My advice is not to skimp on your tablet protection and to buy this even if it is a little more expensive.

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting concept, 11 Oct 2014
This review is from: Rooms (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Although this is billed as Lauren Oliver's first adult novel, the same themes of the supernatural impinging upon the natural world are in evidence. The characters in this book are a family who have been ripped apart by secrets. The ghosts that share the house with them have clues as to these secrets but they cannot give the family any help. Their watching brief makes them rather passive characters which is the main reason why I don't think that this book touches the heights that Ms. Oliver's books usually hit. In many ways the story reminds me of Leisel and Po, her book for younger children, but in that book the interaction between the two worlds was much more in evidence and for that reason you really cared about the fate of the characters. By the end of this book I couldn't really care about the living or the dead and the denoument had little effect on me emotionally in the way her books usually do. As ever, her writing is lyrical in places and her talent for details shines through, but it is ultimately uninvolving. Diehard fans will enjoy this book on its merits, but for those new to Lauren Oliver try Before I Fall to fully appreciate her talent.

Easy flowing read following 3 girls from such different backgrounds brought together by dancing for a living.Their struggles to find & stay in paid work draw the reader in to their world of Asian clubs. 5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful cleaner, 11 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The difference using this powerful cleaner over my previous VAX is amazing. Although I have never used an upright cleaner before the excellent attachments make it easy to reach the corners & crevices in the room. So easy to empty & clear the filter afterwards. The incredibly long cable allows me to clean the whole of my downstairs from one socket. I was initially concerned about the weight of the cleaner but 2nd time around it was so much easier, felt lighter & more manoeuvrable. Will stick with this one & a much cleaner house now!

4.0 out of 5 stars A festive treat, 16 July 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I notice that this book is due for release in November 2014. That's great, because it is the perfect Christmas book. It has the fantastical elements mixed with real life struggles that reminded me of It's A Wonderful Life. Reading it in July rather detracted from the magic because I think we are more attuned to redemption and miracles at Christmas. That being said, I loved the central character of Madeleine and her teacher Miss Greene and wanted both of them to find what they were looking for. My only problem with the book was the concentration on some of the supporting characters at the expense of the two protagonists. When I was reading about the supporting characters I was impatient to flick through the chapter so I could get back to the story that really mattered. I understand the need for well-drawn subsiduary characters but I felt that the chapters that concentrated on them had come in from another book and in some way detracted from the overall effect. However, I will be re-reading this in December and that is the mark of any successful book.

Forgotten Men [DVD]

5.0 out of 5 stars An old film that forces you to take a new look at WWI, 16 July 2014
This review is from: Forgotten Men [DVD] (DVD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This film should be required viewing for anyone who is interested in the First World War. In fact it should be required viewing for anyone who isn't. The fact that the film was made within twenty years of the war's end makes it noteworthy because we see the veterans as vital men in their 30s, 40s and 50s rather than the veterans we have been used to seeing in recent years. That serves to make the events more relateable. However, the real strength of this film is the incredible range of battlefront footage from all sides. Men are killed for real in front of your eyes, bodies are shown and war is presented in all its brutality. It still has the power to shock even a century on. Any teachers who want to make the conflict relevant to their students really must get a copy of this, but of course the caveat about the scenes of killing should be taken into account.

Just a Simple Wedding (For Better or for Worse Collections)
by Lynn Johnston
Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.33

5.0 out of 5 stars A satisfactory ending to a brilliant saga, 10 July 2014
Maybe not the absolute best of Lynn Johnston's epic saga but it ties up the story very satisfactorily. I've followed the series through from the first collection, but now I have this I will go back to the start and enjoy one of the most amazing achievements in comic strip writing.
