One of the few books on this most interesting of subjects & like "The Realms of the Russian Bear" opens a window on this zones wildlife covering so many habitats. With all the degradation of it's habitats & the damage to flora & fauna we need more books on Russia's wildlife. I enjoyed the book tremendously & their accounts of a diverse wildlife.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Dark Side of Darwin - Observations, 8 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Awful book lacking historical perspective & attributing Darwin with hidden agendas when he was merely using the language & phrasing of the day & not seeking to subvert religion. Poorly constructed & lacking in substance & valid research. A real "dog" of a book & an utter waste of money.

In his efforts to sell the creationist agenda & intelligent design he resorts to character assassination rather than presenting a well balanced well researched piece of work. Alfred Russell Wallace, Huxley, Darwin, Lyle et al were all products of their time, it is a mistake to use 21st century perspectives & apply them to the 1800,s.

The case for supporting creationism, theism, & intelligent design is not proven or any true supporting data for the need of external intervention from an omnipresent supernatural being controlling evolutionary processes. Rather than undermining Dawkin's & other authors of a similar stand point it tends to bolster their stance.

This book is a product of a mind that can't cope with the thought that life is a random event that reacts to its surroundings with the most fitted surviving & the ill fitted destined for extinction. The randomness obviating the need for intervention challenges the need for a religious perspective or an omnipresent controlling god or gods intervening on our behalf.
