4.0 out of 5 stars Looks like it will do the job, 6 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having watched Jamie Oliver's 30 minute meals, we decided that we needed a food processor. The first one we ordered was damaged in transit and never arrived. We ordered this more expensive one to replace it. This newer model has full sized discs rather than inserts which I imagine makes it chop food faster.

First impression was the box which is huge! When you unpack it though, the parts take up a lot less space. The tray for all the discs etc is a good idea and seems less fiddly than having to store them inside the machine.

We haven't tried it yet so I have reserved a star for that. It does look the business though and all the parts fit together easily and securely.

Jamie's 15-Minute Meals

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyday cooking here, 6 April 2013

Whether you are working or not, you rarely have the time to spend hours preparing and cooking meals. This is why many busy households rely on ready prepared meals and take aways.

In this book, Jamie shows you a different way that results in a more healthy and less costly diet. Using natural ingredients was the way my parents and grandparents cooked but then they would spend all day on preparation. Jamie shows you short cuts that reduce the time taken to minutes.

Of course, it will take more than fifteen minutes for most people to prepare these meals. Jamie has everything to hand and has practised the dishes in order to achieve super fast cooking. However, even if it takes twice as long, this will be faster than a trip to the nearest Chinese take away and the result will be tastier, more nutritious, healthier and most important - cheaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jamie's enthusiasm wins you over, 6 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book starts with a detailed explanation of what you need in the kitchen in terms of equipment and ingredients to prepare these meals. The recipes then detail the steps required to prepare the food along with photographs which help greatly.

Jamie's rustic approach to presentation will not appeal to those who want their food to look like works of art, In the same way, his ad hoc measuring of ingredients will not appeal to those who like the precision of cooks like Delia Smith. Jamie's approach is geared to fast prep and having the food on the table ready to eat in double quick time.

The test of food is ultimately about the taste and here Jamie scores high with big flavours and textures in his dishes. His dishes are also low in calories, healthy and nutritious which is what we need for every day meals. If you want lots of red meat and rich sauces then you need to look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable insight into Spain, 6 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Art of Spain [DVD] (DVD)
The three programs provide a fascinating insight into both the history of Spain and its art. From the Moorish influence of the south to the eccentric art of Miro and Dali, this DVD covers the topic well.

Graham-Dixon does give us his own personal view of art but that is only to be expected.

We will never know whether this works or not because it has stayed in the packaging since it arrived at our house.

3.0 out of 5 stars Still waiting to sample one of the recipes, 17 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My wife bought this book because we both need to lose weight.

The recipes look very tempting but they do rely upon you having a good stock of ingredients. When a recipe calls for a teaspoon of some exotic spice that you will probably never use again, then to me it is a waste of time. Miss the ingredients out and you compromise the finished product, go out and buy it and you are left with half filled jars in the cupboard.

When I see one of the dishes on the table, I will up the star rating!

UPDATE I have to eat my words! We have now tried out one of the recipes and it turned out to be quite delicious. Best of all though, we did not feel guilty because the result was low fat, low cholesterol and healthy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not complete, 17 Feb. 2013

I am very much of the school that believes, if you need a manual to use something like an iPad then it was not thought out properly. Just playing with the features of the tablet teaches you most of what you need to know.

For those who like to know though, this book does lead you gently by the hand through the very basics of using an IPad but then leaves you to figure out the more advanced features for yourself.

I suppose one of the issues for books like this is that it is impossible to keep up with the changes that Apple make to iOS which is now up to v6.1. The new features of the system are of course missing from this text.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breeze to set up, 17 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am using this base with a Gigaset SL78H handset and basically, within less than five minutes I was up and running ready to make calls.

Access to the base is a lot quicker than it was with my old Siemens C460IP phone and base and this new one is a lot more versatile.

I am using this in the home connected to just one VoIP account and one phone. In an office environment though, it could be connected to several VoIP lines and a variety of DECT handsets.

Most important, call quality is very good - much better than with the old phone/base combination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great call clarity, 17 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Living in Spain, we rely upon VoIP to make calls to our friends and relatives in England. The first phone we had was a desktop Grandstream which we replaced with a Siemens 460IP DECT phone. Although that phone still works it was looking a bit worn from use so I replaced it with this newer model.

Newer models come with more features, better displays and voice clarity. That is certainly the case with the Gigaset SL78H.

Another plus; the old phone used the same 2.4Ghz connection as my Apple TV which caused it to stutter when playing video from my iPad. That seems to have been cured now because the new phone uses Eco+ with transmissions at lower power to the base.

Although you can connect the phone to both a fixed line and a VoIP line, we chose to just connect it to VoIP to avoid the possibility of making expensive calls via Telefonica.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not all cards are equal, 11 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It can be difficult to compare cards from different makers when one refers to speed in MB/s and another as a multiple. To make matters worse the names they use like Extreme, Ultimate, Ultra and Professional are confusing. These Professional cards are second in the range of Lexar cards (they do make 1,000x cards at a higher price of course).

If your camera can handle the speed then faster cards will transfer the files from the camera quicker i.e. the camera's buffer will clear in less time allowing you to resume shooting and so do make a difference in spite of what anyone might tell you. If you are shooting still life or landscape this is not relevant but if you are shooting action then speed of transfer is important.

The other consideration is reliability because Compact Flash cards can fail and will do so when they are filled with your most important photographs. Lexar have a reputation for quality so these cards should prove to be reliable.
