5.0 out of 5 stars Better than my first computer, 24 Oct. 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
There have been some mmomunetal technical occasions in my life. The first motorcycle, a wireless remoute control for the video recorder and of course the home computer. Then there are the flickering tea lights that you don't burn.........

These wonderful little things can only be described as awesome. All you do is put them in the charger, turn them uoside down and suddenly you have a flickering tea light that lasts for hours and hours. Brilliant! Fall asleep after a few beers and ther's no worry about the house burning down, stumble over in a drunken haze and no danger of burns.

Make these number one on your Xmas pressie lists they are on mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Piece and quiet,, 21 Oct. 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a mammoth Lego set that is made up of over 1000 pieces which successfully kept an 8 and 11 year old occupied throughout a weekend. All apart from the most complex model could be made by the younger child - therefore the age recommendation is spot on. The number of pieces can be quite daunting and would be aided by some form of organisation system for them.

As you would expect from a Lego set, the models are feature rich when completed and the instructions very straightforwards. The three models available to be made from this set are all distinct and have different features. They can all be played with after construction - adding even more hours of entertainment for the children at no added cost. It is one of the few toys that kept both children occupied without losing interest and wanting to revert to playing computer games!

Recommended toy, though younger children may need some help in finding the smaller pieces. 5*

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product, 21 Oct. 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have now been the proud owner of three different blenders - the first had an awful tap, the second didn't actually blend, and this one, remedies the two earlier faults. It does blend and it doesnt use an awful tap.
The blender is stylish and sleek, much mor elegant in the kitchen than some of the other bulkier cheaper looking blenders, in addition it has some serious weight to it. The jug is made of glass and is deceptively heavy.
Using it is easy, plug it in, and press the button, the pulse function is always nice, and the blender is also VERY loud, as they all seem to be. Decent enough in its function, though it can make alot of froth, perhaps not the greatest at fine blending (though that may be a bit much to ask).

I would certainly recommend it for a entry level machine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Oh Dear - Jumping on the WW2 Bandwagon...., 20 Oct. 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Ok, so if you are reading this review then you have probably seen a fair few WW2 games before (COD, Red Orchestra etc) and probably even a few RTS WW2 games as well - so what makes this game different from the others. Basically the difference is the premise that you will use tanks instead of the normal panzer squads and infantry movements. The main crux of this game is that it has to pull off this new foray - unfortunately it doesn't.

Rather ominously when you look at the box the initial signs are there, the ingame pictures show screenshots, but the graphics look bland, more early 2000's than 2010. The problem is that the studio that produces this game does not take the time and care to put the detail into its games - something that the likes of Crysis and CoD do in abundance. Hints of this are evident by the release of 'Africa 1943' in 2010 as well.

Onto the game itself, some very oddly high specification requirements. The specs that are recommended actually match that of my computer almost exactly - and yet it plays much more detailed games than this at a much better quality. My guess is that the game is poorly designed and therefore uses alot of processing power up. This suspicion is aided by the numerous glitches / problems during both installation and play itself. The gameplay is fine - if you persevere, kind of boring to get into, and too detailed sometimes, after all its just a tactical fight.

Certainly wouldnt recommend the game - go and get 'imperial glory', its a good few years old and is more fun than this! (though not WW2, for that get Hearts of Iron).

3.0 out of 5 stars Hardly an innovation..., 20 Oct. 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have to agree with the earlier reviewers here, this 'wire' (for that is all that you get) does its job and no more. Its speed is nothing special, then and again you can really expect it to be. It comes in a nice box with all the branding over it, but in essence it is the same as any other wire that does this. Though i must admit, I do like the LED (nothing like an LED to tell you something is working).

Three star because it is just bog standard.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality, Comfort & Niggles., 16 Sept. 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Having seen these headphones arrive in their vacuum packaging, their compact design became rapidly evident. The phones fold up into the main body to provide an easy small transportable package. The headphones themselves are marketed as 'DJ Headphones' for reasons unknown to me, they worked perfectly adequately in a business environment proving themselves to be well insulated, comfortable and good quality.

There weren't many downsides to this product, however a few minor points lose this headset a star.
- Firstly the headphones have no volume control integrated onto the wire, thus it must be done more laboriously through the volume control on the computer.
- Secondly, the headphones came without the adequate 3.5mm adapter to allow them to be plugged into the computer, thus one had to be found before they could be used - seeingas this product is marketed towards PC users surely it would be evident that an adapter should be included?

So, overall these headphones provide a comfortable, high quality sound in a very competitive market. 4 Stars.

Fellowes Portable Laptop Riser GoRiser Notebook stand

4.0 out of 5 stars A quirky little gem., 13 Sept. 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
When this arrived, I must say, I was slightly perplexed, how exactly would this piece of of plastic help anything! Having undone/unwrapped/bent it this way and that, I found the answer.

The riser comes flat packed, and folds out when in use, then folds in when not needed any more. It has two vents that cross over to allow greater airflow to the laptop (no more, ouch my laptop is frying my egg!) The plastic is fairly strong but I must say - it is easily scratched. The device works by folding out, and the pulley system on the one half pulling (using a leather connection) the stands up. Unfortunately the clip which holds the two halves together (flat) fails, though this doesn't have much affect.

Effectively you end up with a device that is flat, with four rubber stands, two ventilation points, and a slight dilemma. Which way round to put it. This is where I found it interesting, if I followed the packaging instructions then the end result meant my Laptop faced my stomach, yet if I put the rising bit nearest me, it elevated the screen to my face. So I have ended up using the device backwards (catering for markets tall and small?).

The rubber is good, the plastic solid, the laptop ends up in a better position, so why four stars? Just because some bits of the design are slightly lackluster in quality.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 (3 PC, 1 Year subscriptions) (PC)
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 (3 PC, 1 Year subscriptions) (PC)

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like last years - does the job perfectly., 13 Sept. 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
As the list of Anti Virus programs that I have used grows longer and longer I find myself wondering why exactly I bother to get anything other than this. I have now tried Norton, Mcafee, ESET NOD, and although all three of these vary in quality, Kaspersky exceeds them all.

From the basic upgrade approach given (all you need to do is upgrade license if you have the 2010 version), to the thorough scanning. Kaspersky really is the real deal. The program runs fine on my computers (ranging from 2GB-4GB RAM, and from a 2.2Ghz Celeron to a 2.4Ghz Quad Core, the customization allows you to use only what you need. The only slight complaint I would have is that it does take a little time to load, but it is stable. In comparison to ESET (which required a username + password every update) it is much easier to use.

My only comment to any prospective purchasers would be this: Think Kaspersky, but also think 'do I want the Security Suite' as I can assure you, some of the features on the full suite are invaluable (such as checking download amounts). In addition to the above, it is a 3 User license! (and you cant complain about that, it'll do the whole household!)

3.0 out of 5 stars Quiet but that's about it, 30 Aug. 2010
Yes it's quiet and cuts efficiently but the single cut shredders like these are not for the security conscious. Not that cheap either really but I think you are paying for the quietness.

Can't really find anything wrong, it works, it's quiet and the price is a little bit more than more noisier ones.

1.0 out of 5 stars The clue was on the box, 30 Aug. 2010
The clue was on the box when it said in big bold letters 'EASY TO SET UP AND OPERATE'.

We are a small print shop and we needed a cash register so surely that can't be a problem. Of course not, unless you buy this wonderful object. It may work wonderfully and have numerous fantastic function buit you will never ever ever ever ever discover if this is true or not.

The instructions for setting up are horrendously difficult to follow and are written in some form of chinese/japlish. I used the whole till roll that was supplied and still could not get it print the right VAT rate. I am a very good techno person but gave up. My 17 year old son who builds state of the art computers with his eyes closed gave up. Finally it dawned that when it says enter six digits for the vat they mean 175000 and not 000175. You don't need to be a mathematical genius to think that 17.5% should be written as 000.175 if using six digits.....

And so it went on for hour after hour. Hopelessly translated instruction, no clear diagrams of what to do and more and more till rolls (fortunately we sell them and had loads in stock)used up.

Maybe my staff will take to the cash register like a duck to water, I suggest it will be more like a duck to a crispy pancake roll. There's no point in commenting on it's reliability, quality of build or appearance. It's a bit like asking what a new car is like when you can't even work out to open the door to get inside................
