5.0 out of 5 stars So comfortable, 25 Mar. 2014

These lightweight trainers were very comfortable from the first. Now, four days on, and after a few moderately long walks, they are a joy to wear.

The sizing is accurate and the width perfect for me.

Of course I have no idea yet of their durability, but I can thoroughly recommend them for comfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 17 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Loved the quirky characters and storyline. I suppose the subject could be considered controversial, but as his decisions are based on Alex's endearing but incisive blend of logic and compassion, they seem so very right and difficult fault.

I would strongly recommend this book.

Storm and Conquest: The Battle for the Indian Ocean, 1808-10
Storm and Conquest: The Battle for the Indian Ocean, 1808-10
by Stephen Taylor
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 13 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an utterly compelling book and one of the best I have read in a long time. I can do no better than quote Hew Bowen's Guardian review, "The outcome is a triumph, a brilliant evocation of passages to and from India, built around Taylor's impressive ability to paint vivid pictures of shipboard life complete with intrigues, dramas, romances and tragedies. .... we can taste the salt, feel the damp, and smell the fear in a book that represents popular maritime history at its very best."

Whether you are a fan of nautical history or not, I thoroughly recommend this book.

Colour nice but polish is thick and difficult to apply and takes ages to dry. I won't be buying again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling and powerful, 20 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Still Alice (Kindle Edition)
Alice is a successful professor at Harvard and the book narrates the changes to her life and to those around her as early-onset Alzheimers takes hold of her life.
The book is disturbing and upsetting, but is also a wonderful read.

Found the first chapter reasonably gripping but found the book increasingly tedious after that and finally gave up altogether. Not for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad translation to Kindle, 21 Jan. 2013
This review is from: Bride Flight (Kindle Edition)
Looked at a sample and like many others, found it unreadable because of the lack of punctuation. As the reviews for the paperback are good, it must be to do with the Kindle conversion and it should be routine for authors/agents to check the converted text before offering it to the public. It would be unacceptable in hard copy and should be for the Kindle, too. We are after all, paying for it.

How to Keep Your Doctor Happy: Top Tips for Perfect Patients
How to Keep Your Doctor Happy: Top Tips for Perfect Patients
Price: £4.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty and well observed, 17 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Really enjoyed this book. Wonderfully insulting generalisations about medical types, (e.g physicians v surgeons). As well as perceptive observations about the doctor/patient relationship. Particularly enjoyed (and squirmed at) the evasive answers patients give in response to straightforward questions, such as: "How much do you drink?", "Oh, I only drink at weekends...".

What wasn't quite so impressive was the Kindle version of this book. The paragraph spacing was erratic, as were the headers. In many cases the quotation marks had not converted correctly and two or three syllable words were frequently broken up, making it hard - and confusing - to scan. I'm assuming this is all due to the conversion method used. It's certainly not the first time my Kindle reading pleasure has been compromised by mistakes of this kind.

I would definitely recommend this book, but would suggest you opt for the non-digital format.

The Lost Queen

4.0 out of 5 stars Good historical fiction, 4 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Lost Queen (Kindle Edition)
Like other reviewers, I found the random punctuation irritating but the story proved compelling.
Queen Caroline, sister of George III, was married at 15 to Christian VII of Denmark and the rest of her short life was not a happy one.
This period of history is not usually written about and it was interesting to learn about the Danish court and the enlightened but ill-fated Johann Friedrich Struensee.
A good read.
