5.0 out of 5 stars I absolutely love the commentaries and other features 5*****, 17 April 2015
I absolutely love the commentaries and other features. Having read the books long before watching the first season, it's especially intruiging listening to the writers and producers' commentaries. The discs are well presented with great prints of the characters on the box set.

Last but definitely not least, it's great to watch the entire season again

A must get for any Game of Thrones fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent fim, wonderful cranky storyline!, 27 Jan. 2015
I believe this film is best understood within the historical-cultural context of 20th century Europe.
Seen in this light, a grand hotel in Central Europe in the 20th century awaits its own downfall, and its isolated mountaintop location wasn't able to protect it from world events.
The decline and dissolution of the old world is articulated by the deluxe hotel's apparent refinement being undermined by the concierge Gustave H's foul language.
More seriously, fascism approaches, then the war and its socialist aftermath that strips away the hotel's ornamental facade and its glittering interior (literally).
Thus this disturbing fairy tale is told through the socio-political events of the last century. The exaggerated artifice of the set, of the dialogues and actions, is really a device through which the fragility and eventual disappearance of the world of yesterday is lamented.
For all the film's superficial brilliance, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" lacks a true centre. It is as if all the troubles and turmoils that take place around the characters are of no concern to them. The fact that (spoiler alert ! ) Gustave H was shot by the border guards of the politically realigned country is simply depicted as a final event. Politics did not seem to inform his life experience. Politics and comedy are not mutually exclusive, their relationship was not sufficiently explored in this film....
There are lots of visual delights, but which leave little resonance afterwards.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Watch 5***** Great Film!, 30 Dec. 2013
I thought the last Star Trek movie was good for the continuation of stories from the orignal series but this is even better. Tells the story of Khan before he was stranded on the desolate planet in the Wrath of Khan. Acting good, characters like the original cast in looks (apart from Scottie and Chekov). Full of adventure and simply much, much better than other movies in the fantasy/scifi mould (Avengers, Thor, Iron man etc). Oh and Mr Cumberbund is one of the best British actors at the moment....

Pop Goes the Weasel (Alex Cross)
Pop Goes the Weasel (Alex Cross)
by James Patterson
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable But Not His Best, 19 Sept. 2012
I'm a huge James Patterson and have read many of the Dr Alex Cross series. The Weasel is the nickname for the villain and is arguably the freakiest criminal Alex Cross had had to conquer! He is freaky as he is twisted and vicious killer, yet also so normal. The Four Horseman game is very clever and disturbing. I haven't given this book 5 stars as I thought it was rather predictable. I guessed pretty much all the twists and cliffhangers which is not the norm.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Bluray with outstanding picture quality...., 22 July 2012
I bought this bluray from as it is out already and multiregion, so will play on UK bluray and PS3 bluray players. Firstly it is a very good film indeed, and on bluray the picture quality is amazing. You get 2 versions. The 2D version which is 10/10 for picture quality - colours are beautiful. You also get a 3D version which you use the 4 pairs of glasses with. This version is stunning, and although it loses a fair bit of colour, it gains alot in incredible scenes. The 3D is jaw dropping, and we all had great fun with it. Watch the 3D in complete darkness, and you see all manner of items literally leap out the TV screen at you. Even scenes around the dinner table are incredible. I urge you to get this, especially if viewing on a 42-50" screen

4.0 out of 5 stars ENJOYABLE 'SCI-F'I ACTION MOVIE, 22 July 2012
'john carter' doesn't want to coninue to fight for any cause, he's seen enough on the battle field.
however in saving a senior officer from the 'apache's' he becomes involved in a tussel with an unknown being in the cave he had fled to, winning the fight he see's a pendant in his attackers hand which appears to have lit-up, taking it, he mysteriously finds himself transported to 'barsoom' a planet he knows as 'mars'
'barsoom' is a largely baron planet but does have life, the planets army's are in a constant battle against each other.
'john carter' realizes that with his help he can save a 'warrior' princess from a marriage she does not want and help unite a planet, bringing peace.
this is an action-packed sci-fi film with much in the way of eye-popping 'cgi' which is advancing in terms of spectacular at quite a pace.
a disney treat worth watching in both or either 3D or 2D vision.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good., 11 April 2012
This review is from: The Tortured [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Now I didn't go into this film expecting too much but was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it can be a little extreme, and it's definitely aimed at the Saw generation, no doubt about that, but this is a good movie about action and consequence. Good ending too!

4.0 out of 5 stars WORTH TAKING 'TIME' -OUT TO WATCH., 14 Mar. 2012
some time into the not too distant future, time becomes the currency'
at 25, if you have the collateral you can live forever without ageing, however the world's resources could not support an endless number of 'live forever' candidates.
if yer' poor, 'time' runs out a lot quicker as the cost of ''living'' gets dearer.
our heroes, who have had their time stolen, are set to have an action packed race against the clock to save themselves before time really does run-out
this really is a sci-fi movie that's worth taking time out to...........enjoy

This review is from: Drive [Blu-ray] (2011) (Blu-ray)
As my title warns don't expect all action car carnage, because you'll come away very disappointed. Drive is a neon drenched thriller shot in the style of early Michael Mann or Tony Scott films. It even has a great 80's feel electro pop soundtrack that makes the whole film feel like it belongs in decades gone, where words were minimal and and it was a mans world.
The film starts with a very tense hide and seek game with the police as Ryan Goslin's character helps crooks escape the law by his exceptional driving skills and his cool head, but by day he is a stunt driver. The film then slows down to a crawl as characters build and back stories build, until the film gets back into gear with some breath taking drops of violence and car carnage.
I'm not going to beat around the bush as this filn will be loved as much as it's loathed, but I found this retro fitted no frills thriller a refreshing change to the GCI and cartoon action of other motorheaded films.
Drive has cult status written all over it.

5.0 out of 5 stars For all those wondering!!, 24 Jan. 2012
This is coming out in 4 formats, 3D Blu-Ray (You will need a compatible bluray player, 3D TV and 3D glasses to view), a 2D Blu-Ray if you haven't got all the 3D gear (yet), a DVD and finally a digital copy.
For the cost this is a brilliant package as it allows you to watch the film now and still watch it should you decide to upgrade your bluray player and TV in the future (as I will next year).
Oh, and it's a brilliant film, one of the best uses of 3D in the closing credits and set's up brilliant for next years Avengers movie.
