Great read., 22 Aug 2010
If I Stay is a gripping, poignant read.
It tells the story of talented teenager Mia who has everything going for her and then has her life changed in an instant when she is involved in a terrible car accident, leaving her with a very important decision to make: whether she lives or dies.
The story flicks back to Mia's life before the crash and parallels with her treatment in hospital. I usually find that with two timelines I prefer reading one over the other, but in this book both timelines are equally engrossing and I never found myself wanting to skip a timeline and read the other.
The book kept me guessing until the end and I genuinely didn't know which choice Mia would make. And despite the subject, this book is not at all morbid; it's about so much more than death. Mia is a great character and her voice is very captivating and holds your attention 100% and no matter how sad or graphic the descriptions, I never felt the need to put the book down or stop reading - I was with this narrator all the way. Recommended.
