The Singer Not the Songs, 12 Jan 2011
Rumer is a great singer. Listen to an individual track and dream with her plaintive but mellow voice. She is not such a great songwriter. The album should be entitled "Slow" -- every song is slow, soporific rather than romantic. Am I just an old f. to want words that rhyme and tunes you can hum? If you're still awake for the last track, you'll see what she can do with another writer's material. Her next album must include more songs by other people -- how about a tribute to female singer-songwriters: Janis Ian (Seventeen), Joni Mitchell (Both Sides Now), k d lang (Miss Chatelaine), Katie Melua (The Closest Thing to Crazy) -- you get the idea. Rumer's great voice deserves better material.
