Love Byte

4.0 out of 5 stars i enjoyed it., 13 Oct 2014

Andy is left to care for his daughter,Amy,when his wife Lyndsey dies far too young.Lyndsey knows technology and has set up an account in Andy's name on an online dating site and has also sent a devastating email to break up a relationship that allows Andy to date Molly if Molly if he chooses.Andy knows nothing about Lyndsey's plan.Lyndsey is concerned that after her passing,Andy won't be able to cope with the needs of Amy.I like books that have few characters and don't spend pages padding them out and this book is very much like that.At approx 300 pages,it's not overly long.I read 180 pages over four evenings but read 120 pages on the last evening as it turned into a page turner and i wanted to know what happended. In truth, you can pretty much guess the ending at the midway point but it's still a very enjoyable read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Chicklit that runs to over 500 pages., 6 Oct 2014
This review is from: It Started With Paris (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A young man proposes to his girlfriend at the top of the Eiffel Tower and the book begins.Leila, the bride's best friend has romantic issues,Vonnie wants love and Grace,a divorced head teacher finds her Son's wedding means she has to see a lot of her ex-husband.For me,the book is very long at over 500 pages and there is a phase early on where every page seemed to introduce a new character which meant a short description of the person and how they related to others in the book.It got difficult to remember all the names and relationships. It's well written,a little shallow, and definitely not a page turner. It's just a jolly type of book that you'd take on your beach holiday.

31 Bond Street
31 Bond Street
by Ellen Horan
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.92

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story,wonderfully written., 4 Oct 2014
This review is from: 31 Bond Street (Paperback)
Based on the true story of the murder of a dentist,Dr Harvey Burdell,in New York,1857.Dr.Burdell was found stabbed and nearly decapitated in his town house and the house keeper,Emma Cunningham,is immediately put under house arrest and tried for his murder.I really enjoyed this story and i felt the Auther,Ellen Horan, did a wonderful job on all the characters who came to life and she really set the scene recreating the times of the 1800's.A real page turner that i found to be wonderfully written and very descriptive.I've given it 4* and not 5 as the ending wasn't quite as good as i'd believed it was going to be but still very unique.Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality curtains., 4 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
In my teenage years,i worked on a curtain stall at weekends and sold net curtains and would like to think,i still retain a little knowledge. These curtains arrived in a clear zipped plastic bag that can be reused to store them if the curtains will only be used for part of the year. The quality is very good with a good sized hem that helps them hang well. There is a nice sheen and they have enhanced the look of our patio window.Very impressed and i have no hesitation in recommending this item.

3.0 out of 5 stars a new Author with promise., 30 Sep 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The book is set in Berlin,1946,and Kasper Meier, lives in a two bedroom apartment with his father. As the two are related, they're only allowed to live in a one bed which leaves Kasper open to being reported to the Authorities and blackmail.Kasper is homosexual with a liking for young men.One day he is approached by a woman requesting he help her find a pilot.Kasper is a wheeler, dealer and can often find information by trading goods but he's surprised by the approach and believes he is being set up.The story begins.I liked the atmosphere and pictures in your mind that the Author created with his writing. The characters are believable and for a while i found the book to be a page turner and enjoyable. However, both myself and my wife who also read the book, found some of the writing a little crude and off-putting.We accept it may not offend other readers but for us,there are the odd lines, that the book didn't need and lowered the tone.A good debut novel that with a little refinement could've helped improve the book.

A story of three women who come together after they all married serial bigamist- Henry Royal. This book is very much written in the style of Maureen Lee and if you enjoy that type of gritty drama, which i do,you'll really enjoy this. It's an easy read, written at a good pace, maintains your interest and not at all predictable.Very enjoyable and one i have no hesitation in recommending,

Philips BT9280/33 Series 9000 Laser Guided Beard Trimmer
Philips BT9280/33 Series 9000 Laser Guided Beard Trimmer
Price: £79.99

3.0 out of 5 stars QualityTrimmer, 27 Sep 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My Son suffers with psoriosis and excema and when it flares up,shaving is difficult as a blade scraping the skin is painful. This appeared to be a Product that would allow him to grow a light stubble. In practice, set at 0.4mm,the stubble was longer than he liked and it didn't benefit his skin condition at all.The Product itself has a real quality feel and setting the different lengths of facial hair simple. It charges quickly. We now actually use this trimmer to trim sideburns and the hair at the back of the neck when trimming his hair at home.Nothing wrong with the Product,it just didn't work for us as we'd liked to have used it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb companion for the D3300 but of benefit to owners of other Nikon's too., 26 Sep 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
In my youth,i was a keen photographer but when marriage, babies and a mortgage came along,my expensive hobby had to go.Now middle-aged,i'm trying to get back into photography and purchased a Nikon P90.Though around 4 years old,a lot of the instruction and guidance found in this book is still valuable. The menus are the similar and everything is explained clearly. This book also offers guidance on how to take better photographs.I intend to upgrade my camera but can't decide which Nikon to buy but whatever choice i make,i know this book will still be useful. The book isn't comprehensive,in that,it covers everything about the D3300 but not the accessories. At first,i considered this disappointing but because of the huge range of Nikon & 3rd party items that can be added to the camera,i fully understand the omission. The book is less than 300 pages and that's still an awful lot of information to take on board. The Author has written many books on photography and it shows.Obviously very knowledgable about cameras and photography, she conveys the information in a very clear and concise way that is extremely helpful.Nikon could do worse than put a copy of this book into the box of every D3300 it sells. It really is that good.Very highly recommended at a great price imho.

Acme BK01 Ultrathin Bluetooth Keyboard
Acme BK01 Ultrathin Bluetooth Keyboard
Price: £23.41

4.0 out of 5 stars nice quality, very small, easy to use, fair price but the base is an issue, 26 Sep 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Straight out of the box, this keyboard is far smaller than i expected, measuring 20mmx215mmx115mm,which equates to a height approx the same as my iPhone,3 1/2 x the width of my phone and half the thickness at 5.5mm.Bluetooth v3.0,2 hours charging is supposed to last up to one month in use.High peformance lithium battery that has a predicted lifespan of 3 years but i can't see an obvious way of changing it so i assume,it's then becomes a throwaway item unless another reviewer knows differently. The weight is 170g which is very light and the keyboard has a nice soft touch, responsiveness to it.The base is shiny brushed aluminium and as others have stated,in use, this is the problem. It slides and really needs rubber feet. The charger is USB and i like the Product but the base is an issue that irritates.I connected to a Lenovo laptop and my iPhone with no problem and found the keyboard easier to use than the laptop keyboard which i find a bit agricultural and the iPhone onboard screen which i find a tad small for my fingers.Overall,if you're prepared to add feet to the base, buy it,if not, avoid.Personally,i really like it and glad to have it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not one i could recommend., 25 Sep 2014
This review is from: Twist (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My wife read the Prologue and one Chapter and gave up.I too think the Prologue is dire and shouldn't be there.I've read 125 pages so far and i'm still waiting for something interesting to happen.Supposedly based on Oliver Twist but from what i've read,it's simply some of the names are similar.Twist absconds from prison, used to be a graffiti artist and gets around by jumping walls, swinging from drainpipes.Red,a pretty thing, steals a card, visits a strange building which is minded by some Russians.Twist is chased by a Police Car and Helicopter that appear from nowhere, completely unexplained.Twist meets Dodge who takes him to Fagin. That sums up 125 pages. The book isn't badly written though it contains a paragraph of sex and some swearing to give the book street cred realism, i assume, but the book doesn't grab you.Boring is far too strong but it lacks substance,a good storyline and definitely isn't a page turner.Neither myself nor my wife could recommend this book.
