4.0 out of 5 stars Good bargain and excellent music, 14 Oct. 2010
It is a very good idea to gather in one boxed-set almost all the sides recorded by Big Walter Horton under his own name during the 50's even if all of those are still currently available elsewhere. As usual with JSP, prices are low, notes are minimal, settings are poor and sound is average but it is a very good bargain if you don't have the music already. Added are some of the numerous sides in which Horton appear as a sideman (he was at his best in this role) but some of the greatest ones are missing (with Jimmy Rogers or Tommy Brown for example) and some are wrongly credited to Big Walter (Off the wall for instance which is now generally credited to fellows Memphians harpblowers like Sammy Lewis). The third CD is a straight reissue of an old JSP LP drawn from a live concert or a radio broadcast from january 1973 (not the 60's at it is said in the liner notes). The personnel of this session (very poor sound but once again great music) not listed here is Walter Horton (Vocal, Harmonica), Carey Bell (Harmonica), John Nicholas (Guitar), Sarah Brown (Bass), Fran Christina (Drums).

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful, 20 May 2010
Absolutely wonderful selection of blues as played and sung by country music artists of the 20's to 50's. A southern white way to sing the blues very original and very gripping at the same time. Remarkable liner notes

4.0 out of 5 stars good old robin hood, 20 May 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Those three old films featuring robin hood or someone very related to him are very entertaining. Good casts (excellent John Derek, Cornel Wilde or Richard Greene), excellent directors who kew how to really make a film without special effects nor big budgets and interesting and varied scripts. Of course it's a little bit old fashioned but much more entertaining than the Ridley Scott's pachydermic vision of Robin. Good transfers and english subtitles which is very useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated films by a master, 21 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very interesting set of three very early (and seldom seen) Billy Wilder's films, showcasing his ability to succeed in directing any kind of film genres. The fourth film in this box is the very dark DOUBLE INDEMNITY (unfortunately without any kind of subtitles).
The others features are: THE LOST WEEKEND (english subtitles); THE MAJOR AND THE MINOR with an amazing Ginger Rogers (english subtitles) and the excellent A FOREIGH AFFAIR (english, french, german, dutch subtitles).

5.0 out of 5 stars A must, 25 Sept. 2009
This huge book documents a vast scope of books, magazines, leaflets and such dealing with the blues world. If you want to find anything upon anybody in the blues, this book is a very big helper. If you're a blues scholar or a blues fan, you certainly can't live without this book.
