Great Phone, 27 July 2011
I thought this phone deserved a decent review, seeing how brilliant it is.
Firstly, I'm an 18 year old teenager, just finished college, going to Uni. I use my phone for messaging, phone calls, playing games, browsing, checking and managing my emails and facebook.
I pretty much do everything I need to do, and this phone can do it, easy :)
The UI is gorgeous, all of the different themes and setups that can be selected create the ability to choose a diverse looking phone, much different from the stock theme. I wouldn't change anything about the UI.
The software is great, updates to Gingerbread 2.3 fine. I've have no compatability problems whatsoever with any apps, so all good there. It comes stock with a facebook app and a gmail app, both which I use a lot from day to day.
On the outside, every time I look at this phone I pretty much fall in love. I've got a silicon case which I used whilst I'm out and about, and used a leather case as well if its just sittin in my pocket. But when I get the phone out, or look at it without the case, I just fall in love. The texture is gorgeous, the quality superb and this is one hell of a sexy phone, I don't care what anyone says.
As for hardware, processor and graphics wise everything seems great. I've had pretty much no lag, other than the odd occasion. My phone is branded, and the quick boot isn't really quick boot, however this is due to the software, and unbranded software should a lot quicker. The screen is great. Maybe not as good as an AMOLED from samsung, but still a good screen. The 4.3" does give it a much larger screen, however I don't see it as a brick nonetheless. The only disappointments with the hardware are the speaker and the camera. The camera is a whopping 8mp, but pictures are saved at around 1mb, which means it looses soo much of its quality. Its a shame really, but still something good to boast about. The speaker is also pathetic, end of. Try playing music through them, and its just tinny, waste of time. Plug your headphones in however, and your in another world with TruSurround.
I've saved the most important to last, and I think this is one of the most important factors about this phone, battery life. When I first had this phone I was getting very worried, as its battery really didn't seem to last long. The battery isn't great, I'll be honest, my phones been on 12 hours, I've done some facebook, sent a fair few messages and the batteries half dead. I havn't got an animated background, but then I don't use all of the battery saving apps and techniques that people say. My emails come as they come, contacts sync when they need to, no messing. I've had 2 days out of it with minimalist use, but I prefer to charge it everynight. Just one note, the screen eats the battery. Start playing games and you'll soon find the battery just drops. The same with any video's, these tend to drain the battery very fast.
In general though, this is a great phone. I am extremely happy with my desire HD. Everything about it is great, and my mates can go on about having an iPhone etc, but I so prefer my desire :)
