This is a beautiful story, combining the horror of war with the desire to discover what happened and reunite displaced families. Consequently it is full of emotion and I found myself feeling overwhelmed with grief and sadness at some points but then as the story unfolds, just as in real life, with tragedy there is also, one hopes, happiness and fulfilment. I particularly enjoyed the characters of Gabriel and Marta and their relationship with their granddaughter, Anahit. The contrasting attitudes of the young and older generations are written about without judgment but rather with understanding that one generation's experience forms how they view the world and some find it more difficult to move forward than others.

I read many books and found this to be very enjoyably different. Yes the language will upset you in places if you are averse to swearing and the characters are, in the main, thoroughly dislikeable but isn't that the whole point? Society is a shambles of differences and this book portrays superbly that what goes on behind closed doors is very different to what is displayed publicly.

5.0 out of 5 stars triple tier cake stand, 25 Feb. 2010
Great product, can be separated to use as individual servers or use as a traditional tiered cake stand. Suitable for grown-ups and for children's parties too - very versatile.
