Arrived well within time and well wrapped. Was a little too big for my machine, but luckily friends had exactly the same and it was too small for their machine, so we swapped. Happiness all round!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top recordings., 9 Mar. 2013
Shostakovich at the best. I have many recordings of Shostakovich Violin Concertos. Next to Oistrakh is this recording my favourite. Mordkovitch has the right feeling of these two masterpieces and Järvi is following up. The sound is also at it's best. Highly recommended. Look up for their recording of Prokofiev's Concertos as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Dvorak, 8 April 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a very cheap DVD but has good sound and picture. Sawallisch is on his top with the Israel SO in these Dvorak's Slovanic Dances. Tchaikovsky's Suite from "The Swan Lake" is also included on this concert.
Recomended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Valen recordings we have waited for., 8 April 2009
With the third CD of Valen's orchestral works Christian Eggen and Stavanger Symphony Orchestra have finished Valen's complete orchestral works,- the four symphonies, the symphonic poems and the two concertos. Valen's long more or less neglected works really "shines" for the first time. Eggen has aøso done a remarkable work on restoring the scores. For all lovers of twelve tone music these three CDs are more than highly recomended. Don't hesitate just get them and get into this beautiful and maybe not so easy music by the greatest composer from Norway.

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best recordin of Strauss Vier letzte Lieder?, 26 Dec. 2008
For over thirty years this record have been one of my favorites. Schwarzkopf and Szell makes the absolute out of this last work and maybee the greatest masterwork from Richard Strauss hand. Schwarzkopf has also recorded it a couple of other times. Also remarcable, but these recordings are in mono and if you want "better" sound this is the CD!
All the other songs are also sung with an angels voice. Just listen to the last one "Am Winterweihe". No music lover can miss this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Valen recordings we have waited for., 26 Dec. 2008
This review is from: Orchestral Music 1 (Audio CD)
The norwegian composer Fartein Valen's geniuos music have been for a long time neglected. Untill now three recordings of his Violin Concerto (all played by Arve Tellefsen with different orchestras)and some old recordings of symphonic poems been available. In the mid eightis Aldo Ceccato and the Bergen Philharmonic recorded Valen's four symphonies which was at that time very welcome. Christian Eggen, however, has gone deep into Valen's scores and worked hard to restore the scores from spots of ink etc.
Eggen and Stavanger Symphony Orchestra gives us for the first time a fair chance to listen to this marvellous music.Elisa Båtnes as soloist in the Violin Concerto plays with bauety and insight. Some will say that Valen's music is complicated (his use of the twelft tone system) but remember Valen's own words about music : "You shall not understand, but listen!"
The sound from these BIS recordings are also perfect. Don't hesistate buy these CDs and you will find a new and wonderful musical world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best symphony ever written in Norway ?, 2 July 2008
This first recording of Finn Mortensen's Symphony Op.5 and the very first recording Mariss Jansons did with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra is a must for every music lover. Mortensen's thrilling, lyrical and dramatic symphony is perhaps the best and most ambitious symphony ever written in Norway. The orchestration, the development, every small phrase are more than well played by Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Jansons. The symphony was for a long time neglected, Mortensen was not satisfied with it! Today it is often heard played in Norway. The rest of the CD consists of Mortensen's Wind Quintet and Suite For Wind Quintet well played by The Oslo Wind Quintet. This CD is a winner and I strongly recommend it.
