A least a decade after Soul Sessions 1,here is the follow up. I's a very accomplished affair, and Joss Stone's voice is maturing nicely. She has the power of a traditional soul singer, and is most effective when you hear her almost letting go,as on For Gods Sake, etc.Standout tracks for me include,The Love We Had,For Gods Sake,Then You Can Tell Me Goddbye,Nothing Takes The Place Of You,I Got The Blues, and a smooth, silky Pillow Talk.

Criminal that she doesn't get the praise she deserves in Britain, but a follow up to be proud of. I would have preferred a more stripped back approach on some of the tracks also, but a great album that I'm still playing weeks after buying it from Amazon.

Five big stars for THAT voice.Four for the album.

She gets a very unfair press does Joss! Plus, here in Britain, her task is that much harder because people constantly harp on about her Brits appearance and fake yankee accent(you tube it-It isn't that noticeable really! She was probably just larking about and it was years ago! Lighten up people!)

Joss's voice has never been better:(now stronger, more unbridled) and, rather than being the faker people say she is,if you witness any live performance, she would blow almost any other female singer out of the water without really trying!

V.good album, but could be even better! Stand-out tracks,'Landlord','Karma','Newborn'. I think that if more time were devoted to the song-writing(this was recorded very quickly),she could produce all-time great tracks.

So!............Director's Cut is finally here! I've had this for a couple of weeks now,and it barely leaves my car stereo. Was a bit unsure at first, but the re-working's of Lily ,Deeper Understandins and Red Shoes alone make this worth the purchase!

It isn't all perfect, but does seem to have a raw edge that the original albums, although still ace, didn't posess! I also love it that Kate loses control and freaks out a bit, especially on Lily!

Bit boring to say this I know, but I don't really care for Rubberband Girl in it's new form, although Kate herself has said it was done as a 'fun' version.

Good also to have shiny new copies of The Sensual World and Red Shoes in my mitts too!,but then again,I always loved the latter, despite the critics opinions.

A refreshing change to the bland euro-pop/soul that dominates the airwaves much of the time!

Only four stars'cos I want a brand, spanking new album Kate! Come on girl!

Heard the name Rumer banded about a bit before buying, but wasn't expexcting an album like this! Oozes class and is almost familiar from the first listen, yet never boring or trite, even after repeated plays!

Not a bad song on here.Shame most other artist's gain massive exposure with boring, repetitive pap, when we have talent like this.Hopefully,Rumer will gain a whole new set of fans! Cool songs include Am I forgiven?,Slow, and Aretha, but,as I've already said,it's all good!

Not the best movie ever made, but fun, great over the top acting from Jessica Lange and Gwyneth Paltrow! There are loads of films where they begin with the fanmily or couple re-locating to a(supposedly) idyllic village or rural setting, then it all goes pear-shaped,and the leads are fighting for their lives.

This is no different in it's plot-line,but the faces Jessica Lange pulls are delightful and sinister.Beltin' bit at the end where the kitchen door is swinging to and fro, leaving Ms Lange in a state of turmoil!

Gripping, funny and a totally indulgent treat!

This review is from: Colour Me Free (Audio CD)
Outstanding! Full of soul!Probably the best album I've heard in the past twelve months! Check out "4 and 20 Hours"-Superb,smokey,soul/jazz influences,"Mr Wankerman"-a hidden track about twelve minutes long-Live and beyond belief!"Big 'Ol Game"-Slinky,r'n'b grooves!-"I Believe It To My Soul"-A Ray Charles cover -Stonkingly good!-Just brilliant!-Blows virtually every other singer I can think of out of the water!! Far better than her follow-ups to "Soul Sessions"-Don't listen to the haters who criticise Joss's supposed "americanisms"-You can't just "put on" real soul! This is from the heart!

4.0 out of 5 stars Head First-Into The 80's!, 7 May 2010
This review is from: Head First (Audio CD)
Omg! Bit of a shocker to hear Goldfrapp delve into cheesy 80's rock/pop,but it's a move that works brilliantly!

You could,of course take the view that this is a step too far for a band that are continually inventive, individual and artistic as it initially prompts thoughts of them selling out.

This album, though is really good;the only flaw could be that it's a bit too "immediate",and the novelty of the sound wears off a bit if over-played.

Cool songs are the superb first single,"Rocket","I wanna Life",and the joyous, superb abbaesque "Headfirst".The rest of the album is almost as good, but for me,these tracks stand out initially.

Worth buying, and can't wait to see what direction they'll take on their next outing!!

The Toyah band at their best! I had these albums in the early 80's,and to hear them again is amazing! Delving into these again feels like walking in a dark, mystical landscape of heartfelt lyrics;"Bird In Flight";poetic inspiration,"Tiger,Tiger",and sheer indie uniqueness;"Mummies","Spaced Walking","Blue Meanings","Insects".The list could go on and on!

An artist and a band at the peak of their careers!!

5.0 out of 5 stars As delightful as your favourite cream cake!, 9 Sep 2009
As with series one,we are treated to another helping of the Clatterford women's guild and their associated lives.

Many delights in this series, including Tash's fab wedding after realising Spike was her guy,Delilah,(Joanna Lumley as the old organist),falling off her bike, and Kate's constant intrusion into Sal's(Sue Johnston)life.

Rosie(Dawn French) in meltdown mode is also hilarious and moving at the same time, and her ogling of Eileen's(the guild leader)guild regalia is always comical!

Too many delights to mention really, but if subtle, unhyped, well written comedy/drama is your thing,(without annoying canned laughter)then you'll adore this series! Barely a day passes by that I don't put an episode or two on.(P.S.-Don't miss the cricket match between a rival guild team-just brilliant!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynasty-Series 3-"It's A hot One!", 24 Jun 2009
How sad am I? I got out of work early today, made a sandwich, kicked off my shoes and watched the whole of the first disc of this boxset!

I already have the others and thoroughly enjoyed the antics on offer in the beginning of series three!

Highlights include;Krystle on horseback searching for poor,weather-beaten Blake on a hilltop;Adam returning to claim his birthright as a Carrington;Alexis marrying her close-to-death husband at his deathbed;Claudia losing her marbles and throwing a doll(supposedly Fallon's baby) off the top of a skyscraper;and Alexis munching provocatively at a rather pert-looking spring onion in Blake's kitchen!!

Unmissable,dramatic,o.t.t. and sooo funny!

Bring on the next series!!
