If you value integrity, do not but this book., 19 Sept. 2012
As a former Army Officer who served in the OMLT with same Kandak on the tour after Hennassey, I find this book both dispiriting and slightly cringe-worthy.
I have consulted widely before posting this review, including amongst Grenadiers', and found that his bloated sense of self-achievement belittles the true story and those of the book subject, his Afghan partners. Quite simply, I do not believe that he did everything that he claims to have done.
If you have any experience of the Forces, especially if you have been to Afghanistan and worked with the ANA, you will not enjoy this book because of its factual inadequacies. As a piece of reality based fiction, it gives you an insight in to the nuances, pleasures and frustrations of working with a fledgling military from a culture completely at odds with our own.
