5.0 out of 5 stars Can take a battering., 13 Feb. 2015

Still standing and in great condition after been dragged around the garden and up to the park several times a day by some football daft 9 year olds.

Happy with my purchase, is is my nephew. Too often some football kit turns out to be badly made rubbish that disintegrates in days. This is not one of those items.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very very dull, 13 Feb. 2015
This review is from: Beyond Training (Hardcover)
I am in the middle of reading this, so it might improve. I run regularly, have a decent diet, do active sports etc. and am reasonably intelligent. I am interested in the science of fitness and nutrition, and how to improve my health. So I got this as a gift.

But man this book is a dull slog. It reads like it's just been typed up from the guy's direct dictation. Chapters wander on indefinitely, long chemical names are thrown about to slow things down, quotes are inserted from other writers with little context and often zero conclusion. It's a cut & paste job in lots of places. What this book needs is an editor.

I was unfortunate enough to be dragged along to an impromptu meet & greet the writer did in London a few months ago. Going by the folk who turned out to see him, he's popular with the misanthropes. If you've listened to his podcasts, you'll understand that he's a good salesman for his products, with a solid knowledge of his subject. But he is a terrible writer. There are other, more digestible sources of a lot of this information. I'm not saying there is no truth in whatever it is he concludes (he generally says "and in conclusion... but wait - someone else did a study so yada yada"), but there's no indication that he's a subject matter expert who should be believed.

Uninspiring.

3.0 out of 5 stars GPS now works, but is rubbish, 6 Jan. 2015
For the money, the camera itself is fine. Nice and compact, good picture quality etc.

HOWEVER, do not be fooled by the claims of 'GPS' logging. Ok, Sony messed up and it didn't work initially, but they released a fix just before Xmas. So the GPS (in the Live View Remote wrist band) does get logged. However, it's is really bad data. Crucially, it lacks elevation, which, for most adventure sports, is part of the fun - you want to see your elevation as you skydive, snowboard, bike etc. Also, if you look at the logs themselves, they're generally nonsense - sometimes it's got a satellite count of = 0, yet is still able to find your coordinates. That to me says whoever did their GPS software has dropped the ball somewhere.

I have ended up using my Garmin Forerunner to capture worthwhile GPS info. The wrist thing itself is a massive con - you can do all you need to do via your smartphone (which surely everyone has now). You're forced to get the wristband for the 'GPS' - which is total bunk.

I would look elsewhere for cheaper options if you are looking for good GPS/mapping capabilities.

3.0 out of 5 stars S'alright., 5 Jan. 2015

Pretty weak in all aspects. Kind of can see what it was trying to do, but just didn't make any of the ideas solid enough.

S'alright.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another average Amazon device., 28 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Amazon Fire TV (Electronics)
Despite paying for Prime Instant Video, this device constantly pushes non-free content. Voice Search only searches Amazon's library (not Netflix), and there is no way to hide the overpriced content that Amazon want me to buy on top of my £79 Prime subscription.

Bought this for my parents, and it is ok for them as it lets them use iPlayer and Netflix, and the Amazon content. It doesn't do ANYTHING slightly nifty, that hobbyists might enjoy (eg No NAS drive access, no usb hdd access, no bluetooth/keyboard or ability to use your tablet/phone as a keyboard).

Very limited apps/channel availability.

It's "ok". If you don't have a prime subscription, maybe a Roku would be better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pretty bad., 20 Dec. 2014
Really hackneyed writing, as if by an over excited teenager. You will wince at the lack of creativity in the writing, and the over-wrought metaphors.

Saved only by the humour of Tom Baker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best British Sitcom since Blackadder., 16 Dec. 2014
Best British Sitcom since Blackadder.

Can't recall a better sitcom...

Amazon, can you make the Prime player play the next episode automatically, rather than forcing me to get up from the couch? Thanks

2.0 out of 5 stars GPS tracking good. Everything else is woeful, 15 Oct. 2014
The software is terrible. Scheduling training plans is not possible without jumping through hoops that even as tech savvy user is too much effort.

The website is slightly better now than it was earlier in 2014, but is still pretty unintuitive.

Save your money, get a basic model, and do all the scheduling etc manually. This offers nothing but headaches.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining daftness., 3 Oct. 2014
Pretty shallow, flashy looking, but certainly entertaining for a couple of hours.

Not gonna win any prizes, but worth an evening in.
