Great to take a trip down memory land but beware the sound quality of this cd - it is very poor. I really don't remember these songs sounding so tinny and muffled back in the 60s. At times, some tracks sound as though they've been recorded off a radio.

All I had on Judee Sill was a distant memory of hearing Jesus Was A Crossmaker about 40 years ago! Better late than never buying this excellent compilation comprising all of her first two amazing albums and a lot of additional great tracks. Others have sung this woman 's praises here and they are right. If you've never heard Judee Sill's beautiful voice you really should. And the songs will lift you up, make you think, sometimes weep. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

This is an excellent compendium of many of Anne Sexton's poems, excellently edited by Diane Middlebrook (who also wrote a deeply moving biography of the poet in 1991). Read Anne Sexton and feel more human!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply one of the greatest albums ever recorded, 5 Feb. 2013
This review is from: Horses (Audio CD)
Perfection. 'Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine'. What a class act! This album still makes me shiver with pleasure after more than 35 years. My vinyl copy, bought way back in 1976, is almost worn out after so many years but this CD more than compensates. Horses has got to be one of the greatest expressions of poetic rock ever produced. P Smith's vocal energy is overwhelming and the group play like their lives depend on it, by turns hard, tight, fast, lyrical and oh so sweet. For sheer emotional, inspirational, dare I say it, joyful rock 'n roll, this is hard to beat. If you've never listened to Patti Smith, and/or you want to know what it felt like to be young way back then, don't hesitate to get this album. Perfection.
