I hadn’t intended to read The Phantom Sister straight away, but I looked at the opening lines before I saved the document – and just kept on reading. The author clearly enjoyed writing the story, and that comes through in the pace, colour and fun of it.
Alison’s pond-dwelling sister, Alicia, is the perfect ghostly companion: engaging, sympathetic, and, above all, there when needed. Alison’s two aunts, Betty and Dado, are a little predictable in their ‘good cop, bad cop’ roles, but that doesn’t detract from the overall appeal of the story, which has not just one mystery for Alison to solve, but two. A delightful tale.
