5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the beginner - practical and thorough, 3 Jun. 2011
I'm quite new to real home brewing - I started by cheating with a couple of kits but felt that I wanted a drink that tastes of real beer and so progressed to all grain quite quickly. I've made a couple of brews now using the recipes in this book (Bateman's XXXB and Tim Taylor's Landlord). Despite my prejudice against using white sugar in a brew I'm delighted to have been proven wrong - the end result tastes fantastic and is quite faithful to the commercial brew. The level of detail is just right for the beginner in my opinion - I'm already in a position where I have an understanding of the whole process and how to get the most out of home all-grain brewing. I'm also very happily working my way through the product of my labours! More depth on process and theory might be needed for later on, but I feel that this book has helped my brewing get off to a flying start.

5.0 out of 5 stars First rate for cheap speakers - ideal for flatscreen TVs, 3 Jun. 2011
I've owned a Creative Zen mp3 player for some time and have been impressed with it, so felt fairly confident in buying these speakers. I bought them back in November 2010 and thought that I'd wait a while before leaving a review, as things can go wrong quite quickly in the world of speakers! No problems here at all. The speakers look good, are really well constructed, plug straight into the headphone socket on my Samsung LED TV, with amazing effect. I love many forms of music and the speakers perform really well with rock, heavy metal, classical, jazz, folk. They've solved the usual problem of flatscreen TVs having poor quality, backward facing speakers. Easy to switch on and off if you want to, and with a simple control to adjust bass/treble emphasis to help adapt to the accoustics of your room. They'd be great for PC or mp3 use too, I'm sure but I haven't tried them for this yet. There's a tiny bit of background hiss if you turn the volume right up, but I don't so there's not a problem. Great speakers for the price (really quick delivery from Amazon too).

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent BBC production, but not the best quality copy...., 28 May 2010
Those devotees of Orwell's orginal text will not be disappointed by this BBC production. Obviously some corners have to be cut in a television film of limited length, but the important thing is that the screenplay is faithful to the spirit of Orwell. I thoroughly enjoyed the production. There are two reservations however - this is not a copy that has been remastered, so expect a less than crisp image with a few picture drop-outs. Secondly, this is a Region 1 DVD, so don't expect to be able to watch it on a European DVD player. I watched my copy via the computer, projected through a top-notch digital projector with no problem at all. I don't regret buying this R1 DVD at all - I've wanted to see this production for years and at present, this is the only option so to do.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, but poor design, 17 Oct. 2008
OK, so your not going to save the planet with this device, but every little helps doesn't it? I bought this to replace my old halogen bulb security light and expected to trade brightness for a more environmentally friendly way of providing a little light after dark. What I didn't expect was a design for a security light that requires you to keep it out of the rain! Something like this should be built for the outdoors, but the battery compartment will let in rain very easily. I'll persevere, but have now taped up the battery draw to keep the weather out. Other than that it's pretty flimsy and the illumination is very weak. Still, seeing as I don't want to use mains electricty, I'll have to put up with this. My advice is look for a solar powered light designed for outdoor use!

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best, but incomplete....., 2 April 2007
At last, Monty Python series one comes to DVD - you can't beat it....unless you go to amazon.de and buy the complete box set of series 1-4 (all 45 episodes) for 38 quid, including shipping. Why the big delay in the UK?!
