5.0 out of 5 stars Really loved this film and surprised that it's not been rated ..., 13 Aug. 2015
This review is from: In Bloom [DVD] (DVD)
Really loved this film and surprised that it's not been rated more highly. Both of the actors are talented and beautiful and there's a plethora of really touching scenes. I think that it provides a great exploration of young love and the types of mistakes you can make in terms of love and 'being in love' (on that topic 'The Wonderbox by Roman Krznaric is awesome).

The main criticism that I'd put against the film is the sound quality. Occasionally I found it hard to hear what the actors were saying. Wasn't often though so only a minor criticism.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the sanest analyses of the housing market that I've ever read ..., 4 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After the credit crunch the Queen is reported to have asked a group academics from the London School of Economics 'why no one saw it coming'. Apparently the reply she was given was 'At every stage, someone was relying on somebody else and everyone thought they were doing the right thing.'

Arguably, the author of this book and a few notable other notable exceptions aside, the very same could be said of the housing crisis in the UK. It strikes me as a curious oddity that almost every single housing related decision that's been taken by the governments of whichever colour during the last 30 years has been geared towards the long term detriment of society. It's as if they believe that the the nirvana of the housing markets resides at the point where the first rung on the ladder is a £1million studio flat on a run down suburb on the outskirts of London.

The arguments that Ross Clark has put forward are important. They strike me as being realistic and necessary. I fear that if they are not heeded that the financial crisis of 2007/08 will begin to look like small fry by comparison to the challenges that the future housing crisis will present to us in a few years time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, 30 Nov. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I don't often feel compelled to write a review on Amazon. However, Lover's Knot is such a wonderful book that I felt I had too.

As you read the story you develop a strong attachment to the characters and it becomes a great sadness to realise that you've finally finsihed it.

The story itself centres around a young man from the early 20th century. Unresolved baggage from his past casts a shadow over his life and prevents him from moving on. The side characters are lovingly written and flow very with the main lead.

Heres hoping that Donald Hardy writes some more books.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the social movement that hasn't begun yet. . ., 11 Sept. 2010
This review is from: Jilted Generation (Paperback)
In Jilted, Shiv Malik and Ed Howker take the debate on intergenerational justice to the next level. The culture of unaffordable housing, insecure jobs, student debt and our toxic economic inheritence are all subjected to critical appraisal by the two authors.

However, rather than taking a sectarian 'us vs them' approach to the boomer generation, Malik and Howker set their sights on the culture of political shortsightedness that is endemic in our political system. The topics covered in this book need urgent attention and the sooner the Jilted youth start rallying together the sooner they will be able to put a stop to the ongoing erosion of their economic situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource, 25 Jan. 2010
This book to be an excellent resource. I particularly liked the framework for teaching which I found to be clearly presented with the numerous practical suggestions that are littered throughout. It works very well with the resource book (of the same name) which is packed with superb strategies as well. I found that it works as well for adult training situations as it does in the classroom. I would happily recommend this text to any teacher or trainer that I work with.

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely partisan, 4 May 2007
If you take a look at the picture at the top of the page the bottom of the book says that Mr Horner is a senior fellow of the Competitive Enterprise Institute. One of the CEI's major funder's is ExxonMobile, which has somewhat of an incentive to doubt climate change. The fact that Mr Horner is a business man and not a scientist is also notable. For a none partisan examination of the issues surrounding global warming ... which examines both sides of the argument try 'Global Warming: A Very Short Introduction'.
