Dragon Age: The Masked Empire
Dragon Age: The Masked Empire

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book, 29 Jun 2014
great adventure, excellent characters, good pace, this book really gets you going.

It gives a better look into orlais which is good as the next game is set there and this book serves as a good introduction to the culture, the people and of course, the Game. Special mention about the female characters who are just amazing, if anyone is looking for a story with strong female leads this is it, although you come to enjoy all the characters even the "bad guys".

The only thing is, if you don't know anything about the Dragon Age world then this isn't really for you, this is for the fans, and having even a casual knowledge is an asset. Especially since you get that some of the events her are just set up or primer for the upcoming Inquisition.

For fans of the franchise this is the best book in the series, and it was fascinating to get a better look at orlais rather than the biased or outright mocked view we've had so far. Empress Celene in particular is great to know more about and can't wait for more of her schemes in the new game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun adventure, 27 Jun 2014
This review is from: The Pyramid Waltz (Kindle Edition)
good fun adventure book with an interesting world. People who read a lot of fantasy will be surprised by how magic and normal tropes are done in this world. For such a light read the world building is better than a lot of other longer novels.

The characters are endearing and really well written and you grow to care for them surprisingly quickly. The romance is a little too perfect with no real challenges but still something you root for and again grow to care about.

Definitely worth a read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, 27 Jun 2014
This review is from: Dangerous (Paperback)
First off it's not erotic, the most 'graphic' sex is a fumble with a man that

*spoiler*
she ends up with.

the lesbian stuff is completely glossed over in a fad to black sense. People said the characters are interesting and complex, but they're not. The dom is just a horrible person that is abusive, the sub doesn't have the sense god gave her to stay away, and the man is a nice generic dude but not what you're looking for if your primary interest is in the lesbian relationship.

It's a well written story, no doubt about that, its just the themes and characters are horrible.

Bottom line : If you wanted a book about a lesbian relationship with dom/sub aspects stay away, if you want a book about how dom/sub relationships can get twisted into something unhealthy and abusive then this is the book for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Alright it's not as clever as it thinks it is, 19 Jan 2014

the book is very well written, in that it has prose that is poetic without being flowery. In truth that was the only reason I finished it.

The book tries to paint the main character as some sort of cunning genius, a grand chess master. The only problem with that is there is little to no strategy, gambits or scheming of any kind. It's pretty disappointing in that regard, you spend the whole book waiting for Jorg to do something really clever and he lets you down every time.

It's also hard to take the main character seriously when he's just 14 and the scenes that mention him having sex are just awkward and laughable.

However, like I said, it is well written so I am reading the second book, only a few chapters in and already Jorg gets more memory problems and makes more stupid choices.

Bottom line it's a good read just don't expect to much from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Reboot that's worth it, 9 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Tomb Raider (PS3) (Video Game)
This is a great game. I wasn't happy about the reboot as a long time Lara Croft fan but it won me over. The action and puzzles are seamless and it has a story that makes sense and is engaging. As for the new Lara she is a real character fully fleshed out and very likable.

If you liked Far Cry and Uncharted you will like this game. It has the sense survivor element as Far Cry with well executed actions scenes that are actually better than Uncharted.

A definite buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best fantasy series ever., 3 Jan 2013

This review is from: Silver Collar (Garoul) (Paperback)
This is a great addition to the series. I wished there had been slightly more interaction between the main romantic pairing but it was nice to see from previous characters again. This is a fun and steamy romp, even if it does retcon a few details from the last story.

Definately worth your money, I read it in a day and couldn't put it down.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke after three weeks, 28 Dec 2012

It was a little hard to get used too and to find out how to set it to shuffle. There is also no mains charger so all charging has to come from usb. After finally learning all its quirks the thing then broke. The screen froze and refused to respond or recognise when it was plugged into the computer. This happened during normal handling of the machine no dropping or hard knocks were suffered.

Getting a refund was hassel free but would have preferred for it to work.

1.0 out of 5 stars not good enough, 24 Sep 2012
I didn't buy this book because the preview was useless. It didn't show any of the prose and only gave a page of the general introduction, there was no way to make an informed decision.

I hope they at least give a page of the story to see if it's actually in easy to understand English.

Loved this book, the interactions where great and now since it split from Cinderella's point of view we get to grow closer to all the characters which is why this book works so well. There's great adventure and plot that is miles better than the original mermaid tale.

I love the tension between Talia and Snow at the end. Great book, just went and bought the other two after finishing it.
