delivered 2days earlier than expected. Looked much larger than expected so immediately got the tape measure out! But it was exactly the right size and fitted my extra-long travel cot perfectly. Note it doesn't fold - harder for transporting but comfier for baby!

Although I rate "the Book Thief" 5 stars I would not say i love it. More love/hate because of its subject matter. It deals with very sensitive topics ( War, Naziism, Death, the Holocaust ) in a very unusual thought-provoking manner. Extremely well-written and easy to read, but not recommended for anyone feeling depressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping detective story, 25 Feb 2014

An easy read, once started difficult to put down! Some of the situations are not quite realistic, but nevertheless, an excellent story about a female detective. There are strong hints near the beginning about who the culprit is, but the reader is kept guessing until near the end. Sub-plots keep the story moving.

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile read, 25 Feb 2014

Basically a detective story set in medieval Germany (799 AD), it vividly depicts the hard life in those times. Life centres around the Church and Christianity: at times its a bit heavy-going with ecclesiastical terminology and Latin quotations, but nevertheless a gripping informative read.Obviously much research has gone into this novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well written, but not my kind of book, 6 Feb 2014

This was more a snapshot in the lives of a group of women showing how they inter-related. It was a book of "what ifs", "if only..." and what might have been. It was well-written, easy to read and the ending brought together a certain number of loose threads from the beginning. I only read this book because it was recommended to me, but have to admit was left feeling somewhat dissatisfied. Not for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disapppointing, 2 Feb 2014

This is a very predictable woman's romance novel. It is very light and extremely repetitive. I was on the verge of giving up reading it, but about half way through a plot emerged which kept me going until the end. I would have preferred more plot and less romance!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 28 Jan 2014

A superb start to a classic murder mystery, but storyline got progressively weaker. The characters didn't ring true, and the ending, including the identity of the murderer, was very predictable. I felt it was written to formula, with an eye to the big or the little screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read, 28 Jan 2014

A harrowing tale of a father's determination to find his daughter who has been missing for seven years, abducted as a seven year old. The title of the novel is a clever play on words, but I won't say more than that as I don' want to spoil the story. A good read, but not for the faint-hearted.

2.0 out of 5 stars Staccato style, 23 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A good story line, but I found the style in which it was presented made it hard going. The characters were not developed and didnt gell. Yet the author obviously finished this first book on a cliff edge, hoping the reader would want to read, and buy, more. Also a very short book.

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable who-dunnit, 22 Aug 2012

A thoroughly enjoyable easy-read, although characters and motivations somewhat unrealistic. Would recommend for holiday reading as it is very short, more a novella than a novel.
