SymbolLife Ultra Slim Faux Leather Case Cover + Wireless Bluetooth Touchpad Keyboard for 10.1 inch Windows / Android Tablet, Black
SymbolLife Ultra Slim Faux Leather Case Cover + Wireless Bluetooth Touchpad Keyboard for 10.1 inch Windows / Android Tablet, Black

1.0 out of 5 stars Strange that it didn't occur to them to say it's a GERMAN layout keyboard with different characters & missing some UK English, 9 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I cannot believe this.... They supplied a GERMAN keyboard! Nowhere in the description do they mention that it is a German layout. There's keys for all the umlaut characters. It is a QWERTZUIOP keyboard (yes, you read that correctly, the Y is in a different place). Most of the other special characters are in a different place. And perish the thought that you might want to use an apostrophe (as in did't it) - because there isn't one!

For £20 it isn't worth the £3.80 to return it. I am staggered that no-one else has complained about this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad design, poor quality, broke after three weeks, 1 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not particularly good quality synthetic leather, the method of fixing the tablet in means that the connector is on the outside and exposed. The connector itself is a standard sized USB, so you need an adaptor for the vast majority of tablets, With an adaptor in place it is hard to close the case properly.

After about 3 months use, half the keys stopped working.

Throwing it away and getting something better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Generic jacket available for less elsewhere; does NOT breath, leading to excessive sweating in even mild use, 7 Jan. 2016
While the quality of the materials and construction is fine, I am very disappointed by the Dark Sage jacket that I bought just before Christmas. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to wear it over the weekend, or I would probably have returned it. I ordered it direct because I wanted the two matching caps.

How they can possibly describe this as 'breathable' and 'suitable for demanding outdoor activities' is beyond me. I wore it on two days for relatively short strolls in the countryside, and was only wearing a shirt underneath it, yet the level of dampness inside it was terrible. Had I been going further or walking more briskly, it would have been unbearable. I don't feel it is fair to return items that have been worn, especially when you've sweltered inside, and yet this one is now destined to gather dust on the coat rack and be used only to fetch in firewood in the evenings.

It is obvious that these garments are being sourced from somewhere by several retailers and labelled by them. If you are comfortable buying one on the basis that you won't move about too much in it, then go ahead - though I would shop around for the lowest price.

I did contact Hawkes and Walker and also pointed out that their website is riddled with typos and poor grammar (there are seven on the home page alone). They immediately went on the defensive - describing in great detail the nature of the fabric, denying my experience of using the jacket, and telling me that they had double checked their web site and couldn't see any mistakes. Not a nice firm/person to do business with.

Street Photography: A Concise Guide
Street Photography: A Concise Guide
Price: £2.06

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, low cost, bite sized tips for budding street photographers, 18 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having read a couple of reviews, I didn't have high expectations, but for less than the price of a glass of wine, I thought it was worth a look. I'm glad I did. This is a short book and it doesn't set out to be a major text book or a comprehensive technical manual, but there were some useful nuggets in it that easily justified the price.

Try reading it and drawing up your own list of bullet points to carry with you when you go out and about. Your street photography will benefit.

What amazingly good value for money!

When I bought my camera I was charged more than this for one battery. This has two good quality Li-ion batteries, a neat charger that doesn't involve hanging precariously from a wall socket, AND a car cigarette plug lead too.

Even when away from home, I can have one battery in use in the camera and the other on charge in the car. Brilliant.

3.0 out of 5 stars A potentially interesting book by a highly respected author - if only it was readable, 16 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a really strange publication.

It's by Michael Freeman - who needs no introduction to any British-based photographer since the 80s. I am therefore sure that it is technically sound.

However, it is also a treatise rather than a field guide. So I'm puzzled by the title? It's really interesting, possibly more 'high brow' than many practical photographers would expect, but essential reading (more like a textbook) for students of photography and photographic artists.

But why is it printed in this format? You wouldn't take it 'in the field' and, besides, it appears to have simply been shrunk from a larger format. Down the outer edge of the pages is a grey tab system to divide the book into sections. The printing on these tabs give the game away - it is SO small that no-one could seriously be expected to read it. The bulk of the text is certainly not that easy to read - one of those whole page magnifiers that they sell to the elderly in Sunday newspapers might be helpful regardless of your age.

The page layout is also odd. There's very little difference between the inside margins and the outside, whereas normally a publisher would have larger inner ones to allow the book to open comfortably. A fault that many self-publishers often make is to encroach on the binding too much or leave too little on the outer edges, but this is obviously not an amateur publisher.

The illustrations, of which there are many which is good, seem to have been reproduced in a tint close to sepia. Which is strikingly bizarre for a book on BLACK AND WHITE photography.

So, all in all, a potentially interesting book by a highly respected author - if only it was readable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor fit. Overly complicated to adjust. Massive lump of metal, 16 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Poor fit. Overly complicated to adjust. Massive lump of metal fits into the tripod bush of the camera and therefore projects from the base. In all seriousness, I don't think a designer got anywhere near these. I guess the price is dictated by the quantity of 'leather' (none of which appears to be stamped with a leather mark, so I suspect that it is actually synthetic) - much of which seems superfluous.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just another pair of cheap boots, with the likely wear, fit and comfort issues that go with those, 16 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am surprised at the number of positive reviews for these boots. They ARE perfectly acceptable as cheap boots. I can't vouch for the quality of the uppers, but assuming that these last a reasonable while then the soles, the construction overall, the design etc seem alright. However, there are two aspects that let them down as far as I am concerned.

Firstly, they are narrow. Sadly, it is a reflection of the cheaper shoe manufacturers that they don't include this information in a listing. I can fit into a standard shoe but prefer a wide. These are tight for a standard width.

Secondly, the interiors are nowhere near as plush as some people make out in their reviews (by drawing comparisons with Clarks whose lining socks are very soft). These are austere even by comparison with a less upholstered shoe.

I wasn't expecting a pair of Loakes (at £229 retail) or, even, Clarks (at £80 retail) but I'm afraid that, given the many positive reviews, you would be mistaken to think that they are anything other than a cheap pair with the likely wear, fit and comfort issues that go with those. Comparisons with Samuel Windsor would probably be more appropriate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant. Simple. Does the job far better than complicated rivals!, 11 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I tried three different wriststraps to use with my bridge SLR. The previous ones were all far more expensive and ridiculously over complicated and badly designed. This is the fourth and it is exactly what I wanted. It is simple, fits easily, allows me to use the camera while attached to my wrist, doesn't have a huge lump attached to the tripod bush, and its comfortable.
