5.0 out of 5 stars A Hits Collection That Does Christina Justice., 26 Oct. 2008
Now to some people it may seem slightly early for Ms. Aguilera to be releasing a greatest hits collection after just 3 mainstream studio albums, but this special ten year career anniversary collection definitely does a very good job in bringing together & highlighting some of Christina's trademark & in some cases iconic songs, the tracklisting for the album runs in chronological order to the hits from her 1999 debut Christina Aguilera, then to the sophomore release Stripped & finally to her most recent 2006 retro influenced album Back to Basics, the two songs that Christina did in between her debut & sophomore Nobody Wants to Be Lonely & Lady Marmalade are singles included that cannot be found on any of her albums & finally their are 4 new songs, 2 being different & fresh renditions of the original back catalogue material & the other two being compleatly new such as `Dynamite' & the electro-pop influenced single `Keeps getting better'. Critically speaking i would have liked to have seen a few songs from Christina's Latin release Mi Reflejo: New Edition, also the other non-album collaborations such as `Tell Me' ft. P. Diddy, `Car Wash' ft. Missy Elliot & `Tilt Ya Head Back' ft. Nelly, would have been great songs for the album & would have raised incentive of the more dedicated fans to buy, but overall a smashing hits collection from living legend Christina Aguilera & just to add very fond of the album artwork.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational Song With Inspirational Lyrics., 20 Oct. 2008
This review is from: My Love (Audio CD)
I think this song is great, very inspirational with very inspirational lyrics the live version is equally as good & makes a nice alternative from the studio version & for these reasons it deserves to do well in the charts unlike the other previous singles from Taking Chances which unfortunately have dwindled.

5.0 out of 5 stars Celine's Best Collection., 18 Oct. 2008
This Is Celine's best collection value wise, a 2-disk set it has lot's more tracks on it than it's single disk predecessor, it includes tracks right from Celine's early days, to tracks from the present 2007 album Taking Chances & obiously those in between, this is the quality that makes it slightly better than her first greatest hits album, All the Way: a Decade of Song which had 6 original tracks on it, although this time around there is just one new track, 'There Comes A Time' which was previously unreleased until now & one rare track 'Dance With My Father', these two ammounting to hardly any new content, but being a collection i wouldn't typically expect it, also this greatest hits is a much more detailed overview, so in that way i think it gives Celine's long illustrious career justice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept, Wrong Song Choices., 18 Oct. 2008
This review is from: The Ballads (Audio CD)
This new disk from Mariah is not a general greatest hits instead it's focus is just on the ballads, you will noice only the ones from the sony era (1990 to 1999), this is Mariah's 3rd collection to date, no doubt her fans like me & you will already own the songs & be very familiar with them, it is also quite likely that you may dismiss the album as a quick Christmas cash in for the record company, yes this may hold truth but it's other purpose is to showcase Mariah's superb & treasured voice at it's peak though the very well known ballad's she has sung & became synonymous for, the criticism i have for this album is the song choices, i think there are some songs that have been forgotten like `Butterfly`, `Can't Take That Away`, `When You Believe`, `Can't Let Go', `Forever' & `Whenever You Call` & some that shouldn't have been included as i wouldn't class them as ballads, but instead mid-tempo jams these are `How Much', `Always Be My Baby' & `Dreamlover', the concept of a collection dedicated only to Mariah's ballads is great & what lots of us praise & love Mariah for & sure enough there are more than a few true excellent ballads on there, but some songs are wrong & have let this album down dramatically, i mean where does an upbeat holiday song like `All I Want For Christmas' on a ballads album fit in, it certainly qualifies as evidence to make a stronger statement out of the quick Christmas cash in ploy, a shame & a letdown, it could of been so much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Visual Masterpiece Of An Extraordinary Career, Not To Mention An Unparalleled Voice., 17 July 2008
This DVD is a collection of all Whitney's music videos from 1985 to 2000 in chronological order, it includes the killer hits, `I Will Always Love You', `I Wanna Dance With Somebody', `Saving All My Love For You', Greatest Love Of All' & many more, two of the videos are live these are the untouchable & unbeatable performance of `Star Spangled Banner' & `Didn't We Almost Have It All', apart from that the rest are in studio, the DVD also boasts tons of bonus features including special live performances such as her premiere performance singing `Home', which i must point out was just incredible & effortless, in my opinion everyone should see it because the first time I saw it I was truly blown away, ' One Moment In Time' live from the 1989 Grammy awards it's extremely good too & I'm very pleased they decided to include it on the DVD, as it is certainly a song that shouldn't be missed, also included was the making of the album `My Love Is Your Love', where you get to go into the studio with Whitney & watch her record some of her songs from the album, you also get to see snippets of her `My Love Is Your Love' photoshoot for the album art & there is also interviews with the writers, produces & guests, other live performances include Whitney singing, `Why Does It Hurt So Bad', a less well known song from the `Waiting To Exhale' soundtrack, when I saw it I was more than impressed, other bonus features include 2 interviews with Whitney & Clive Davis, which talk about the subject of what they had accomplished though working together & Whitney's career, finally you get to see an in depth behind the scenes look at the `Greatest Hits' photoshoot, which I found to be a real interesting delight & you felt you were more intimate with Whitney.

I would have to say this DVD was perfect & highlights Whitney's extremely successful career very well, but the only thing that was wrong with it was the track listings, it clearly states that there are videos for Exhale (Shoop Shoop) as well as `I Believe In You And Me', but when I watched the DVD I found out that they were not included which was a bit of a disappointment, I wish they wouldn't bill tracks & then not include them, because it is very annoying, it also cut down the number of music videos to 21, other than that it's faultless.

5.0 out of 5 stars No One Does It Quite Like Sade - She Is Unique Both Musically & As An Artist., 13 July 2008
This review is from: The Best of Sade (Audio CD)
Sade along with Anita baker, queen of adult contemporary, jazz & R&B delivers this beautiful, romantic album which is absolutely flawless from start to finish, providing the ultimate smooth grooves & chill out classics, all the songs are a joy to listen to time and time again.

My personal favourites on this album would be the huge jazzy crescendos of `Is It A Crime' that song is just incredible, the sultry `Sweetest Taboo', trademark hit `Smooth Operator', `Paradise', the jazzy sultriness of `Jezebel', `Hang On To Your Love', `Love Is Stronger Than Pride', `Never As Good As The First Time' & `Nothing Can Come Between Us'.

A fantastic greatest hits from Sade, it's got all the ingredients, class, depth & an almost incomparable sophistication, my only criticism is that it only includes the solid hits from each of her albums, Sade has done some mind-blowing songs over the course of her career, this can be seen in particular on her earlier LPs such as `Diamond Life' & `Promise', it's a shame we only get to hear a small portion of what Sade is about, but otherwise amazing songs, amazing artist, no one does it quite like Sade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Starstruck By It As A Child & It Still Continues To Touch Me., 11 July 2008
I felt that 'My Heart Will Go On' deserved a review of it's own, because it's such a superb ballad & it's so incredibly emotional, this was a song i remember being starstruck by even as a young child, and it still continues to touch me, but now i am older i can appreciate the qualilty of the production & Celines incredible vocal's better, the signature song was a perfect fit for the film itself romantic, emotional, dramatic, but even though it was heavily produced, & the fact that it was extremely commercial does not take away what Celine herself gives to the song, emotion, power & warmth.

5.0 out of 5 stars There Isn't A Better Compilation Album For Adult Contemporary Listeners., 8 July 2008
This review is from: Nite Flite (Audio CD)
I'd totally gone of and given up on all compilation albums, i thought they had too many one hit wonders on them, fillers, and artists I really wasn't interested in, as well as them not suiting my musical preference, but `Nite Flite' soon had that problem fixed, for me `Nite Flite' really does hit the nail on the head, 40 tracks on 2 CD's of pure adult contemporary and smooth R&B, blissful indeed.

Among my favourites are Anita Baker `Sweet Love`, Sade `Love Is Stronger Than Pride', Sister Sledge `Thinking Of You', Chic `I Want Your Love', the original version of `And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going' by Jennifer Holliday, Rose Royce `Wishing On A Star', Minnie Ripperton `Lovin You', Aretha Franklin 'Who's Zoomin' Who' & Brenda Russell `Piano In The Dark'.

The majority of the tracks on `Nite Flite' are brilliant, there is a slight variation of genres throughout the album, for instance some have a smooth old school R&B vibe like Anita Baker `Sweet Love', while others have a more upbeat 70s disco vibe like Sister Sledge `Thinking Of You', and that variation works extremely well on this album .

`Nite Flite' is all-round brilliant, it's sexy, romantic and smooth, in fact i really could not fault it, because of it i've found a lot of artists i really liked on there, that i didn't previously know about before, so discover `Nite Flite' for yourself, relax and float away while you enjoy all the tracks the album has to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bodyguard Is All Round Fantastic, But Don't Just Take My Word For It., 6 July 2008
This review is from: The Bodyguard [DVD] [1992] (DVD)
The Bodyguard was a film more famous for it's incredible 30 million+ selling soundtrack rather than the film itself, but after much advertising and publicity `The Bodyguard' became a box office smash hit, the fact that the film had two very well known leads, also dramatically helped the films success.

The plot is about a famous & successful singer, Rachel (Whitney Houston) hiring a very reputable, ex-secret service bodyguard, Frank (Kevin Costner) to guard her because she has received threatening letters, and is being stalked, Frank is sometimes very overprotective but in the end Rachel sees it is for the best, throughout the film their relationship strengthens, until finally a love affair between them is realised.

I think the film in general is great, fantastic leads, Whitney's acting was brilliant, she was brave to take her critics head on when she chose her debut film role as a lead, it could have easily flopped as for many successful singing stars pursuing acting, it has done just that. The film has everything action, romance and even the thriller aspect to it, it's a classic indeed, but you can't deny that without the soundtrack I seriously don't think this film would have done half as well as it has, final verdict, fantastic and a must see.

Dvd ~ Mariah Carey

5.0 out of 5 stars The Concert That Left Critics Speechless., 4 July 2008
The MTV unplugged concert was of Mariah in her very early days, and was shot live at Kaufman Astoria studios New York on March 16 1992, she performed songs from her self titled debut, as well as back then her latest album `Emotions', the concert vocally is absolutely flawless, and when you watch it you can definitely see why it stunned critics who suggested that Mariah couldn't sing live, and was not a live performer.

The set list starts off with the upbeat `Emotions', very well performed the high notes are perfect, next it's a lung busting performance of `If Its Over', defiantly one of my favourites from the concert, after that `Someday', I loved the perfectly pitched & delivered high note at the end, as well as feeling the energy of the performance, again one of my favourites, same with the next song `Vision Of Love', a more laid back version but still extremely good vocally, `Make It Happen' again perfectly performed and fantastic energy, the most well known performance from the concert, Mariah's rendition of the classic Jackson 5 song `I'll Be There', in my opinion I think Mariah's rendition is better than the original because it was a better vocal performance, and finally the last song of the night was `Can't Let Go' which was an encore, this performance was not bad at all actually, again it was a slightly more laid back version than the original.

Overall a fantastic concert from start to finish, but not only that, the bonus videos from the `Emotions' album are fantastic, and you can't get than those videos on other Mariah DVD's, but there has been some videos removed from the original VHS tape, such as `To Be Around You' which was more of video collage, and `I'll Be There', it would of been nice if they had been included on the DVD version, but I guess they we'nt that important anyway, I did like the fact that even more bonus footage was thrown in with the exclusive interview, which gets up close and personal with Mariah at her home, and talks about her early life and her album `Emotions',

There are many reasons to buy this, primarily because it's on DVD and with that you obviously get much better picture quality, sound quality, and easy access to the songs.
