5.0 out of 5 stars and he would have loved it, as we both regularly saw Genesis since ..., 2 April 2015
This review is from: Genesisrevisited (Audio CD)
I bought this album a week after my dad passed away, and he would have loved it, as we both regularly saw Genesis since the mid seventies. Once you get over the shock of Steve's 'treatments' to each track, which in some cases turn the track into a completely new thing, you will be delighted as I was. To me, Hackett does Genesis better than they did themselves; he instills a majesty and power which was missing on the original LPs, which was mainly down to the rubbish sound quality which plagued most Genesis albums ( Seconds Out excepting). For some, it will be a 'marmite' album; but for those who love it, it will become one of your top ten albums, if only for the astonishing array of world class prog musicians on board.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing amount of research must have gone into this book, 1 Dec. 2014
Amazing amount of research must have gone into this book. Noticeably heavy, on high quality paper, its not just about football, but all about the town of Walsall in the Victorian days. First thing I learned was that Walsall Swifts didnt play in a white shirt, as it says in other book.

Writing a whole book based around a single game of football seems a risky concept. It is very well researched as it emcompasses the whole social background of the times. However, viewed from the perspective of a football reader,do I really want to know all about the history of Eton College, the Eton Wall game, the Clarendon Commission into public schools and dutch carpenters? It's high quality and well-researched padding; but padding nonetheless. Not many photos, and they are all the old,well-known ones trotted out yet again-you know the ones-Charles Alcock,Major Marindin,Eton College,Arthur Kinnaird etc. Strangely,no photo of Barley Bank (Darwen's 1st ground) or the Old Etonians FC, or any contempory newspaper reports, from which he quotes extensively, especially the weather !
Not bad then, but the only thing I learned was the colours of the Manchester Association FC-eh? No-buy the book for yourself and find out!

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully presented as a two-book boxed set, 19 Oct. 2014
Beautifully presented as a two-book boxed set,so great value. However,as an author/historian myself, was disappointed at the lack of information of the early Sheffield teams,of which there were over 20 even by 1875. If you want to know all about The Wednesday and United, then 95% of this book is about them. However,if you want to learn all about Sheffield FC,and all the other early teams, such as Hallam,Heeley,Providence,Albion,Attercliffe,Thursday Wanderers,Lockwoods, etc, etc, then look elsewhere,as these clubs are only mentioned by name, with no attempt to tell us anything about them, such as where they played, and their colours. It is,after all, entitled "Sheffield Football-A History", but it is not; it is a history of United and Wednesday, not the same thing.

Took a punt on hearing a single track on a compilation album. This music is pretty extreme! Their name is an apt description of their immense wall of sound- gothic rock with orchestral textures and huge choirs-epic. Beware though that its so over the top, that its best digested in single-side bursts. The 'death voice' might irritate after a while.so be prepared!

3.0 out of 5 stars If you dont like the colour- repaint them, 19 Oct. 2014
Decent team at a low price. If you dont like the colour- repaint them! You'll do a better job than the machine-printed Ireland kit as supplied. Detail is good, but the definition between shirts and skin is poor. Posted as a veteran expert player.

Very well made item (all metal components) which is adjustable and suitable for most decks, but not as effective as a proper carbon fibre hand brush and a squirt of LP cleaning fluid.

It works great both as a deterrent against garden slugs wrapped around flowerpots and tubs, but I used it on my hifi system to eliminate RF interference on my loudspeaker cables even though they cost £300 anyway.
