4.0 out of 5 stars A caricature of the Shetland Isles, 10 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
One mans journey about running away from the reality of life and ending up living a new life with some out of this world characters. The people that he meets are obviously drawn from some real characters who exist on Shetland and story becomes absorbing, if slightly depressing at times.
Having made several trips to Shetland I have never met any of these characters but can understand how they could exist in such an isolated group of islands

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow start but grows into a gripping ending, 8 Sep 2013

If you can forgive the occasional factual error (the Tay bridge crosses the river Forth - really? then presumably the Forth bridge crosses the river Tay) then this is well worth buying. I paid 59 pence for the kindle edition but it is worth much more.
Some good characters, especially Jack, and typical driven business people, Stella and Jackie, provide authenticity and interest. looking forward to the next book by Lesley Thomson.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended, 4 Sep 2013

At times the book became very slow but overall a good story line kept my attention and made me empathise with the characters and their situations. The folly of war and how it changes lives of those who live through it was well demonstrated. Would highly recommend

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the class, 11 Aug 2013

Characters develop, underlying tensions emerge, new relationships develop all with the same light, humorous touch as the rest of the series. Captures the essential elements of living in Edinburgh to a tee.

Excellent novel which ties all the loose ends together from the previous novels in the series, although could there be a further twist yet?
